Germinating Parsnip Indoors
« on: May 01, 2020, 10:15 »
Can anyone tell me how long from minimum to maximum the chit/shoot should be on pre-germinated Parsnip. Mine seem to be just starting for some but an unexpected bit of colder weather is heading my direction so planting out ought to be delayed.

I recommend planting them out as soon as you see a root appearing - plant two to each seed station to cover your back. The longer you delay it the more chance the roots will dry out and possibly develop bad habits later on (i.e. forking.)

They won't mind the cold unless you live in Northern Norway (putting your your location in your forum profile can be helpful.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Thank you to JayG for the reply. Strange in a way that you say about a location of north Norway. Strange because I am not so far away, in that Kaliningrad on the Russian Baltic coast is my location. I am preparing just now to get the ones that have shown a very little chit into their place. It's only my 2nd year of gardening and my first attempts at 'snips', so experience is not on my side for those. Together with the location of course.

Just 'Wiki'ed' Kaliningrad (::)) and the climate doesn't seem bad at all, although I reckon you'd have problems getting them out of the ground in winter! Won't be short of water by the sounds of things...

Good luck with them.  ;)
