2 chicks hatched
« on: August 09, 2009, 07:32 »
So far, and I dont exspect much else to happen but, the first egg we noticed in the incubator which had the small piecies of broken shell, has come to nothing, membrane still intack, chick could not break out. The moving egg came to nothing so far, third egg we watch hatch yesterday morning 7.00 am 1 maran chick.
Tried to keep a watch on the other eggs, but difficult, as the chick decided to rearrange all the eggs by clambering all over them.
Went to have a bath last night and checked on the eggs, could not see anything else happening, half an hour later from a very big egg, another maran chick was breaking out.
Have got a pen with heat lamp so will put the little ones in there after breakfast this morning.
Officially 10.00 this morning the other eggs sould have hatched, but will leave them in there a while longer.
At least having two, the chicks will have company together.

congrats on your hatchlings! :)whats the humidity at the mo? The fact that one had a sticky membrane suggests might be a bit low or you are opening the lid a bit too frequently :) ;)

No we haven't opened lid, humidity has beeen set at 68. since Thursday morning. Last chick to hatch was from a very large egg, which I understand is not really recomended because of the auto turning, but we were a bit desperate at the begining and had to cope with what we had. Watching the chick hatch, it did have difficulty breaking the membrane, but put it down to being a large chick, which is what it is.
Cant here or see anything from the other eggs, but it was a bit manic in there with the other two chicks, have put first chick in under a lamp now, will put the other in later today.
6 maran eggs bought locally, others through post.
Had 3 goes at incubating, and not had any luck, including 2 from a R.com.
When we cracked the eggs open, there was nothing at all, just a yolk.
Think we solved the problem we had.
We set temperature and humidity as recomended settings, but did not seem to be as warm as it should have been, so after 3 days checked with some other gadget we have, and it was wrong, temperature to low, so reset the incubator back to manufacturers settings, and the heat went up.
So all eggs did not get off to good start, do you think it would be worth upping humidity, or are the rest of the eggs no good.
