Sowed watermelon Blacktail Mountain and melon Emir in pots on kitchen windowsill on 02/04/09 and they have all come through, deep joy, surprised by the watermelon although it is supposed to be a cooler climate variety from t&m.

I am doing Watermelon 'Yellow Baby', (also from T&M) which says it is natually self-pollinating and tolerates cooler climates. Only two are still going but I don't think I'll have room for more than that anyway. I grew 'Ogen' last year, and I only got 2 small fruits which were a bit disappointing.
Shall we post photos later in the year to compare notes?

I am also trying some melon seed this year - it has all germinated well so far in the proporgator. One is called eldorado and the other outdoor wonder, i will grow the 1st in the green house and the 2nd is supposed to be cold climate tolerant to grow outside! so I will try both indoor and out. be great to compare harvest to help decide whats worth growing next year!

I tried Sweetheart last year, without much (any) success it has to be said :(
Since my last post earlier today, one of my two remaining melon seedlings has been attacked by something which has eaten one side of its stem and it has keeled over
I have just hurriedly sown the remaining 4 seeds in the hopes that I will end up with more than one plant.... ooh it's a worry isn't it?

I'm also growing the yellow watermelon but I don't have much success melons usually. I only sowed mine earlier this week & they're already up, so you've lots of time to sow some more. Sounds like a slug has had your others - look under & round your pots, I bet there's one or two hiding.

I had a good look round and couldn't see any - there weren't any slime trails either. I might resort to putting a few slug pellets around to catch any lurkers.
