Wonder what it is that they spray the radishes and calabrese with to keep them from going limp in the supermarket.  Was gonna make a joke here but I wouldn't be that disloyal to OH.

Anyway Gobs reckons she is not pulling my leg about them spraying radishes for instance to keep them firm.

I'm sure that there is something which farmers spray crops with to keep them 'fresh' but isn't that the point about growing your own... ie not to put chemicals on  :?

If you pull the radishes up, wash under cold water and put the roots in a bowl/jug with water they should keep quite firm in the fridge. Muntjac always puts calabrese florets in iced water for an hour or so before cooking and this does crispen them up  lot. :)

Not sure I read somewhere that some suppliers use a kind of gas to preserve radishes _ that would account for the ones sold in plastic bags !! Maybe they inject them with water ? Who knows !!

Now I think of it I think a gas is put in the bag sometimes.
