You know the sort of thing - coloured plastic, various sizes but around a foot or so diameter and about 2 - 3 foot tall. Often seen with the top cut off to make comfrey tea etc.

Where do you folks get these from? And what's been in them?

Hi,
They are hypochloric drums and you can get them from a dairy farmer. The chemical is usually used to clean through the milking equipment. Usually farmers use them themselves, but occasionally they might have a surplus. If you have a local farmer, ask them as they might have these and various other drums that can be modified into great plant pots for tomatoes and such. Just make sure that you rinse them out really really well before you try planting stuff in them or using them to collect water.

If you know a plasterer(or any wet trade), he will have loads or know where to get his hands on some for you.  or try on indstrial est. insidentally they are a good source of pallets both builders and ind. est.

On what they have contained - it could be anything from meat by products, oils etc. to chemicals of every type.  there's not one answer they have as many uses as products that need to be shipped in airtight water tight condtions.

I bought mine -- I needed 8 quickly -- googled blue plastic drums and found a company in North Wales I think.
They had been used to import mango chutney from India but were very clean and had brass taps etc fitted.

Thanks, I've just searched too and found them. Problem is I would want only two, max three small ones so I think delivery to here in east devon would not be practical. How much P&P did you pay?
