Title: Storing bags of compost
Post by: Optimistic Gardener on June 24, 2013, 13:16
I find that I have two unopened 120 litre bags of compost left over after all my potting up.  Provided I leave them as unopened, will they keep until next year?  I was thinking of putting them in the garage out of the way.

Thanks
OG

They should be ok as long as they stay dry ;)

I have to store my compost bags outside since I have no indoor storage for them. If you must do the same, I suggest you place them up on some blocks, cover with a scrap sheet of poly and weigh them down with bricks or stones to keep it in place. You can still use wet compost but it weighs a ton (or seems to).

Thanks MOS and Trillium.  Will shift it into the garage and try to avoid giving myself a hernia in the process.

Remember that when you go to use them the fertilizer will probably be depleted and you will need to add some.
