Chicken feed, how to move to a soya free diet?
« on: August 07, 2012, 13:39 »
My neighbours want to move their chickens to a soya free diet. They need advice on what to provide and in what proportions. They are aware of corn, peas and wheat, I would have thought to match the complete diet of layers mash more items are needed. The hens are keep in a pen 95% of the day. Any advice appreciated.

They want to go soya free as their toddler is intolerant. Have tried to get feed and have no joy sourcing. I looked it up and the only place I can find details is in the USA and the diet is complex and many items not available readily, so would be mega expensive. Just wanted to know if anyone had done it successfully in the UK.

you would need to check with the various manufacturers, however it should be pretty straight forward to get a non-soy containing layers pellet.

Any particular reason why your neighbours want to remove soy?  It is a valuable source of protein.  If it is due to GMO, then I know you can get GMO-free certified feed.
