hello all,
              just come back from the plot and have picked about 2lb of autumn bliss raspberries  i know it is only june but we forgot to cut them back last year so the old canes have produced fruit and the new cane are come up nice so we should get a second crop at the right time of year say september    i was wondering if this is just a one off or if any one else has found this work after all two crops are better then one and if it work should save a lot of money  your big green bloke

I grow a lot of Autumn Bliss, (a very wide 32' row), OK so you market gardeners have probably got more. I've always remembered to cut them down, so have never come across this.

Two things cross my mind.

1- Has the plant put a lot of energy into the old canes that should have gone into the new ones?

2- What are you going to do this year when faced with 2 years canes?  I find the advantage with Autumn Bliss is that at the end of the season, you chop the lot down - job done. No messing about deciding which is old & which is new growth., or is the plan to never cut them down!!
