I'd like to get some planted in the new veg bed, is it too late? If not too late, at what point should I pinch out the tops, I am planning on Sutton variety

No, not too late, I'd stick half in now, be prepared to shelter them from wind and snow, they will stop growing when it gets really cold.  In the spring pop another lot in once the pre-Christmas ones have had a spurt of growth.  Suttons can be planted up to July, they are a dwarf variety so may not need the tops pinching out.  Slugs like them though.

no it's not too late, my seeds are on order and i'll get them sown just as soon as they arrive.

shouldn't be any need to pinch out tops of autumn sown varieties as they are not so prone to black fly.

Mine were covered last year - a bad year for black fly. I might mesh/fleece mine this year.

I'd say, yes, it is too late but remind us all where you are based please (in your Profile maybe?).  "north of Cornwall" leaves quite a scope.
