Ive got new girls.
« on: August 24, 2010, 15:42 »
As Monty is inside with us until his foot improves,(hence getting up at 7 this morning as the crowing started at 6.30!)poor Miss Gray was on her own and seemed very depressed. So we made the decision to get some new chooks earlier than we had intended. I got 2 light sussex and 2 reds. Im just hoping that having a few new whipper snappers will take her out of herself. She seems to be getting on okay with them so far.
I bathed and treated Montys foot this afternoon, I think the swelling has started to go down and he is happier standing on it.

Have just shut the henhouse up. The newbies were wandering around getting used to their new surroundings. Miss Gray was in her nesting box for the night, you may think Im being stupid but Im sure her face looked perkier, so Im sure I made the right decision. The girls are "pret a pondre", or point of lay, so hopefully, a couple of days to settle in and we may have a few eggs again.
I told the owner of the chook place about Monty and his trip to the vets etc, he looked at me as if I was mad. If he was in a french house, he would be in the pot by now!
I paid 7€90 per chook today, approx £6.50, not bad I thought. Ill take some photos of them tomorrow if they are not too shy!

Ive never had such timid girls!! They are still holed up in one corner of the henhouse. I think they've eaten, the bowl was empty this afternoon, but all the calling and cooing wont tempt them outside. Normally with new girls I have trouble getting them inside! Perhaps Ill get some piccies tomorrow!
