Few Pics...
« on: May 06, 2008, 23:28 »
Just thought you might like to see my veggie area...

Deepbeds getting tided up and top dressed with compost, fed from above as nature intended and not buried in the soil...

Seeds sown and covered for protection...

Thought I'd try tyre potatoes...

How it looked inside...

Strawberries in the greenhouse...

This years compost...

Cheers

 :)
Best Regards,

spud

I don't consider myself an expert at anything!    but experiencing life is what its all about, if I think I'd like something I go try it  :)  I've loads of Tee shirts to prove it...too many my wife says  :D

I had a large garden up until a few years back, I still have my T20 Ferguson tractor, thats how big the garden was...believe it or not I get almost as much from the three deepbeds in the pics as I did from the plot  :)  (except for the potatoes). I like the thinking behind the no dig / deepbed system...its more natural IMHO and because you're working with nature, she repays you handsomely.

I have tried the tyre system this year, and I think the secret is the large size Low profile tyres, but I've yet to prove it

My wife already wants me to get a few more tyres for the brussel sprouts, they need a firm footing and could be packed well in the tyre

Very good looking - well done
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Hi

I have done tyre spuds this year, they have come up two or three times, I kept putting another tyre with compost on top, and they have come up through the third one now, and are about 9" high, be interesting what kind of crop there is, as this should simulate high mounds of soil should it not?

I have spuds in the ground, both mounded and not mounded up, so will be good to do a comparason.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments everyone ... weeds are in there   ;)

I'm trying to create a forest food garden around my deep beds ... in the first pic you can almost make out some of my fruit bushes running along the boundry hedge ... there are also a few fruit trees in another part of the garden.

Cheers

 :)
