Title: Pecking
Post by: SocksOn on January 09, 2011, 12:24
Hi

Have been reading on here and it seems to be a common problem - we have 3 chickens, 1 of which has turned into a bit of a bully - personally we thought it was boredom as she's attacking both chickens - we made the decision to take her away from the others as 1 of the chickens bald spots had gone very red and we were worried about her then being attracted to the red and getting worse.

My question is now that we have taken her out, well we split the run so that the others could have some space - they can still see each other which from reading another post isn't enough they need to not see each other - do you think it will be ok to put a barrier up so that they wont be able to see each other, rather than having to build a whole new separate run for her?

We've had them since july/august time and it was evident that she was the top of the pecking order from the beginning - once I reintroduce her is there any way I can stop her being too aggressive during the reestablishing phase?

Thank you for any help

You can always use beak bits which stop her from being able to peck but still leaves her ok to eat and drink if the pecking carries on.

Thank you. I think that will be the next step if it doesn't get better
