A question about water lilies.
« on: August 10, 2023, 09:57 »
Good morning gardeners,
I've just purchased a dwarf water lily,  the literature says a depth of 4" -8".  Another source says that if water lily leaves are under the water they will rot.  The two leaves (and one emerging) of the lily are short so the container is just below the surface.  Will this dictate how long any futurer leaves will grow and then stop growing? ???

Over to you water feature experts.  Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

It will stop the emerging leaves growing any longer than they need to, so if there are only 2 existing leaves, I would sacrifice them and put the lily at the depth it needs to be at.  If you leave it in the shallows, you will get lots of short stems and lose more leaves in the long term.
