Title: What's the strangest reason you have visited the vet for?
Post by: jinty1911 on March 02, 2011, 15:20
After being at the vet with Gracie yesterday it reminded me of a visit to the vet a few years ago.  I noticed 1 of my fantailed goldfish wasn't well.  Put him into an old ice-cream carton and off to the vet we went.  I told the vet that fish was distressed and had breathing difficulties.   He asked how I knew? Well, I just did  ;).  So, he picked fish out of water, squished it's mouth open and there stuck down it's throat as a small pebble.  Vet said he had never seen anything like that before and didn't charge me a thing for entertainment value.  :)  :)

I once went to the vets without an animal.  The vet asked "what seems to be the problem", so I told him that I was suffering delusions I was a moth.  "Well you plainly need to see a psychiatrist.  Why did you come to a vets?", he replied.   "Well", I said, "I was just passing and I saw your light was on!" ;)

My apologies to the daily funny where I plagiarised this joke from.

When we got our first cat my OH was worried that it seemed unwell - she was crying and seemed to be in pain. We took her to the vets and he burst out laughing. The cat was on heat - what made it even funnier was the vet pointed out that it was the 14 February - Valentine's day.

Didn't visit but the receptionist was very amused when I phoned to ask if you could give calpol to a duck as he was in pain after a fox attacked him!

( the answer is yes!)

I went to see if I could get my son, then about 15 a saturday and holidays job with our local vet. He got that job, loved the experience, went to Royal College of Vets which lead to him going for all kinds of other experience related jobs with me usually having to tow our caravan there so he could live cheaply. He is now a vet and his wife is also a vet. He can be strange at times and so can his vet friends - does that count?

a girl from my son's school did work experience with a vet at the same time as he did, she left because she decided she wanted to be a dentist. My son came home disgusted and said he could not understand how someone could put their hands in some one else's mouth.
Not only did he become a vet after all the usual cow and sheep tail end experience but he is now a specialist equine dentist.

I did a week work experience at a vet - it was one of the best weeks of my life... even after the vet gave me a pair of freshly degloved testicles from a rather lerge Doberman!

Unfortunately I just couldn't get the chem grades to get into vet school :(  I now work in drug safety!

One of the last times I visited the vet  was to get my girl cats stitch out after her spay.  I turned up at the vet wearing a long sleeved t shirt and carrying a pair of heavy gardening gloves!!! (in the middle of August)  The receptionist looked a bit perturbed to say the least.

I forgot to take the dog with me to the vets once     Does that count?

I'd been in a bit of a rush and jumped in the car.  The reception offered to check my ears instead but I hastily retreated and returned a little later with the dog!
