Potting Shed Roof Repairs Ideas & Suggestions.
« on: August 16, 2014, 20:36 »
I recently picked up the potting shed in the photo, it was nice and cheap but requiring some TLC and the roof is beyond repair, I have had some thoughts as to what to do about the roof but I have not come to any conclusions as of yet.. .. ..

Idea 1.
Replace the roof with tongue and groove and cover with felt?

Problems: Expensive and would loose the light from the roof windows.

Idea 2.
Replace the whole roof with clear corrugated sheeting?

Problems: Not sure how long the sheets last, they seem quite brittle and I don't want to mess around replacing them if they get broken every time there is a strong wind or every few years through general weathering, I am also having trouble finding a source of clear corrugated ridges to close the apex at the top of the shed.

Idea 3.
Replace half the roof with clear corrugated sheeting and cobble together the two halves of the original roof for the other side?

Problems: As previous and again closing the gap at the top between the two halves, I have found clear corrugated flashing which might work if turned upside down - I have even thought about using round guttering turned upside down?

Idea 4.
Use greenhouse glass and an old greenhouse frame to replace one side of the roof.

Problems: I can't find any old greenhouse frame work!

Thoughts please.  :)

Thanks for the overwhelming replies, my post obviously created a lot of interest.  :tongue2:

I have a solution.. .. ..
Wickes has some polycarbonate sheet, which if used lengthwise is an almost perfect fit, I am going to use two pieces one either side of the bottom section of the roof, the top section of the roof I am going to put some wood battens across and nail the original tongue and grove to these leaving an overhang so the polycarbonate will tuck underneath.

I am hoping that the weather will be good on Saturday so I can put it all together.

Cheers  :)

It was hard to resist at less than 10% of the new price. I have spent a bit on the parts needed to spruce it up, it is surprising how quickly the costs add up, I could of done it cheaper but I like things to look nice and want it to last for a good few years to come.

I will post up some 'After' photo's if it all goes to plan.

Dr Who has a blue box not a great looking potting shed - there again I they could somehow turn Dr Who into an Allotment Holder  :nowink: :nowink:
