Fruit Trees in Leaf
« on: December 28, 2011, 15:34 »
Hi a few months ago I planted an Apple tree and Victoria Plum tree on the plot.

One of them (not sure which is which) is now in leaf and growing, its obviously the mild winter we have had so far.

I am concerned that when Winter does show itself the tree with the leaves will be damaged. What should I do? An fellow plotter said I should wrap some protection around the branches where the leaves are.

I think you should be ok when the frost arrive the tree should go into its normal dormant state dont think you should wrap it in anything you will be delaying nature keeping the tree warm not 100% someone should be along soon with more information,Hope it all goes well for you

I noticed today that the buds were breaking on the gooseberries as well :(
Everything will cope, when the cold finally arrives..........probably in July, the way our weather is behaving lately

Are you sure it wasn't an autumn flowering one?

Mind, me gooseberries fruited off in April last year.

The plum will have a shiny bark ( though I do not know what age they are and how much this might show). Do not wrap them.

A bit early planting, but hey, we have mature, unmoved trees in green leaves still. That's what there is, weatherwise.
