Holes in blackcurrant leaves
« on: June 23, 2011, 10:59 »
Blackcurrant leaves have loads of little holes in them, what can be doing this? Whatever it is isn't touching the raspberry next door!

Any chance of a piccie?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I can never upload photos here, file is always too big and can't work out how to make it smaller  :(
Inspected the backs of the leaves again yesterday and found two or three little white caterpillar things which I subsequently flicked off. Guess these must be the culprits. The holes aren't in all the leaves, just the ones on the top of the plant, look like it's been sprayed with a pellet gun. The blackcurrant is right next to a beech hedge and beneath a sycamore so maybe these caterpillar things are originating from there?

It does sound as though it might be those little munchers at work, and they should be quite easy to deal with.

On the plus side, if the bushes are otherwise healthy, they can stand the loss of a few sections of leaf without too much trouble  :) :)

PS Here is how to uplaod a photo -- hope it helps
