You're right, you could produce an amazing new breed and then you will be worth a fortune!

But yes, it's all about genetics now!   Look!

Heres some pics as requested Craig. The light sussex appears to have the dominant features so far but he/she only hatched this morning so the colours could change.

Cheers

Was it Maran (cockerel) and Light Sussex (hen) or the other way around nuzuki?

Sorry didn't get it done today, the weather has been awful and I had to battle to get some Christmas shopping.  Will try tomorrow, that is if he/she will stay still long enough.   :D

The maran is a hen and the light sussex is a cockerel :)

Heres a pic of the early hatcher with his temporary friend...

I also have another 2 hatched in the incubator and the remaining 2 eggs look promising also which is great for this time of year. It seems I almost gave up too soon   ;)

Heres some hybrids (hatched via eggs from a local lady in our village, I believe they have buff orpington in them)

Heres some hybrid eggs I hatched from ebay

How can you tell the Light Sussex is a cockerel?  When I had them all the info I found online said you had to wait until they were 8 weeks or older.

Here is the picture of my Light Sussex x Partridge Wyandotte bantam (cockerel) and one of my Welsummer cockerel and one of my Black Rocks that I hope will breed.

Hey ANHBUC, I meant the father is a light sussex and the mother is a cuckoo maran. I have no idea about the offspring as of yet. I know you can do vent sexing from day 1 but I hear it takes a keen eye and lots of experience. Check out the program "dirty jobs" with mike rowe, in one episode he works on a chicken farm that practises day old vent sexing.

Lovely hybrids you have there by the way :)

If you get good at vent sexing, there is money in it!  When Brian used to help his friend out who had a turkey farm, this is going back 15 years.  The old man who used to vent sex for him chanrged £70 an HOUR!

And he wasn't always right either!! lol

Wow that is worth considering, im just afraid I might squash a chick too hard. Apparently you have to squeeze their belly and a bit of poo/wee comes out and whilst this happens you have a quick glance at the vent to see if there is a lump or not. Lump equals boy, and no lump equals girl. Sounds so easy but I guess in practise its not  :D

Silly me I did ask the question, I blame it on Christmas frenzy!   :D

When you advertise the offspring you need to put cockerel x hen.
