Title: Salad and Brassica cloche or netting? Help!
Post by: bigjemmett on May 24, 2011, 17:28
Hi,
New to allotmenting and not sure what to cover my spinach chard etc with. Not got much spare cash so want to get it right - a cloche? a poly tunnel?
Any help gratefully received!
Rebecca

Don't think the chard needs covering at all. It certainly doesn't need it from a warmth point of view and even the pigeons on our site don't bother with it.

Likewise with lettuce, they don't like it too warm, just need protection from birds if they are an issue and any old netting will do.

i dont cover my swiss chard or spinach but i do net my brassicas like sprouts and cabbage with a fine netting also carrots with a very fine netting, net strawberry's and other fruit from birds but allow for bees to get in  :)
