Hi need a little advice as to what to do with a bleeding comb on one of my girls!  Ive tried to clean it up the best i can and ive put a big blob of vaseline on it, not sure how effective that will be?  Im a little worried?

Any help would be appreciated

i think the vaseline should be fine, don't worry about it, it'll heal soon enough

Thanks, her face is now covered in blood, just spoke to my local farmer and he says to sprikle flour that will help too.
There are wee red speckles all over the garden where shes been walking and dripping!

A non-scented talc works as well to stop the bleeding and the vaseline will help with the irritation. It's amazing how much blood a little cut to the comb can seem to cause, but dont panic too much. It will heal up, just keep an eye out incase it was caused through pecking by another bird so they dont aggrevate the wound.

Thanks Caralou, i will keep my beady eye on her.  Cant believe my luck at the mo had to take one of the dogs to the vet yesterday and now this!! AAAAH!!!

my big Terrence has cut his cere/comb, by pecking into the ice around his waterer. It has healed ok, bless him, he was too impatient to wait for me to do it.

we have just put vaseline on the wattles, combs and legs of all the chucks since it has got very cold, will try to do it every day now.

Checked Emily over before she went in for the night its stopped bleeding. (phew) thanks for the replies peeps!! Fingers crossed it wont start back up again tom!!  :blink:

I used Calendolon ointment on a cut comb a couple of weks ago. It healed really quickly but was smaller than the cut in your picture.
Hope she's OK

I keep a small container of wound powder.  It's very good at stopping bleeding and is antiseptic too.

Just wanted to report that my girl is looking better today!  Phew!  panic over, for now!
