Hi all - just managed to get an old 'merry tiller' 3hp Briggs & Stratton rotovator going today - but the belt is missing - I think its part no. MT3371 - I see the link on this site has them for sale at £15 (nearly what I paid for the machine!) - are there any other sources? Or perhaps there is a similar sized belt from something else folks use - suggestions welcome.

Also I need an outer tine (one is missing) - again can any one help source one.

Cheers

Mike

You could try your local car parts company and match it up with the nearest one.
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Come to think of it mine's kevlar on my DM , I'd imagine a car one may just shred then or stretch etc.

I've been using a Halfords one on my machine for the last 4 years with no problems. The original belts weren't kevlar after all

they were coated by a cloth material that did the same job.

Hi Mike,
I have just got a Merry Tiller Rotovator with the Briggs 3HP engine.  I wonder if you would mind, at your liesure, confirming one or two details for me please? What I would like to know is,

1.  On the plastic governor vane there is a small hole in the end.  Does this
connect to the throttle spindle, and by what means?

2.  Is there a spring that connects the throttle spindle and the base of the control rod?

My carb is dismantled and I want to ensure that it is re-assembled properly.
If you are able to assist, it would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks, John.
Things is not as they used to was before they is as they am now, so why wallop yon horse with parachute?

Kevlar is for tensile strenth, the cloth covering on old belts is different

its so that the belt will slip on the pulleys when the belt is in a loose state ie clutch off. a plain rubber belt will tend to "snatch" and hence wear more quickly (burn)
