My Chickens
« on: November 09, 2010, 13:58 »
I got 5 beautiful ex batts from the Hen Welfare Trust about 5 weeks ago and I just dont know what I ever did before I had them  I adore them all, they are just so funny and have such differing characters.   They are still rather bald and scabby looking 5 weeks on, but I have just noticed some new feathers starting to appear on a couple   :)

Checking out their new home, on day 1.   Sadly, there's no grass left now.

This is Naomi, she's the 'prettiest' of the bunch.  She's feisty and noisy and follows me around like a devoted puppy   :D

This is my youngest daughters chicken.   My daughter is 5, and has named this little chook  'Princess Eggy Chicken'  and I stand there in the the garden, calling her it too - daft as a brush!  :tongue2:   She is the scabbiest and smallest hen, but she is just as adorable and is getting braver and tamer by the day.

I think she's lovely!
their feathers will grow back in no time as well.
I've only had mine for about 7 months and I'm nuts about them, i love them to bits!
Mine are called Bessie, Mildred and Gertrude  :)
Memory is a selection of images. Some illusive, others printed indelibly on the brain.

that pic was taken on day 1 ... the feeders etc on there were temporary ones only as when I originally rang the chicken welfare people just for a chat they had chickens waiting for homes the very next day and I wasnt quite ready - of course, I couldnt resist and just had to have some.  I got those feeders just to keep me going for a few days til my big ones came.  I have a nice galvanised set now :)

Lovely, lucky chickens!
It is difficult not to watch them all the time. Every morning I promise myself and my husband that I will only take "a few minutes" to let them out and feed and water them. I allways spend more time than I should and end up having to gulp down my coffee quickly as I'm on my way out to work.
Good luck with yours and many happy hours of just standing and watching.
El.

They're lovely!  Watch as their feathers grow back as if you look closely it looks like a piece of tapestry  :)  They'll need some good layers pellets and greens to help them with their new feathers, plenty of fresh air and clean water and they'll soon look like regular chickens

Makes you sick to see how they come out of those flaming batteries
