what do you think to this plan...?
« on: April 10, 2008, 09:06 »
I have a deck area that I built at the back of our house. I intentionally left a 12" gap all the way around between the deck and the fence to fill with compost and grow plants. We've had grasses and other bits growing there for a few years quite happily.

I'm thinking of screwing some trellis or running some netting along the fence and training some butternut squash and courgettes up there. Then planting sweet peas in amongst them.
Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.

Around fences, etc, are usually dry places a lot watering, maybe a dripping hose buried would be a good idea, make sure your squash and courgette are trailing varieties and your netting is strong.

That would be fine for this year but you will need to think about crop rotation for future years
