I'd be going for seeds IMHO  :D

Yes, loads. I grow Savoy. I plant seeds in plug trays, about now. However, they need plenty of light or they will fall over and be useless seedlings.
When the plugs have a good root ball you can plant them out. They prefer alkali soil. Some gardeners wash the roots in various strange mixtures of wood ash and muck, I don't bother.
What destroys them is root fly maggots. You need to put collars at the base around the stem. You can buy them or make them from roof felt (much better). This will prevent the maggots burrowing down to the roots about may/june.
Then come the butterflies who lay egg all over the leaves. These hatch into caterpillars which will eat everything. So grow under fine net or fleece.

About four to six inch square with a slit cut to half way through. The slit goes round the stem flat on the ground. I make additional cuts at the end of the slit to allow for stem growth.

I made my own brassica collars. Mindless, boring activity for a winter's night while watching the telly

I made them out of that black, damp-proofing membrane which comes on a roll, which I found in my husband's workshop  8)
