Engine Oil - Not Old - Uses ??
« on: April 22, 2015, 12:51 »
I took over an allotment two years ago and found two 20 litre cans in a shed, I assumed at the time they where wood preserver ( Cresote ). Last night I thought I would paint up some posts ready to build a fruit cage, only to find what appears to be engine oil in both containers.
Can anyone shed any light on its uses ?
I have seen that people in the past have mixed it with old fashioned cresote if this is the only use I will need to get some and dispose of whats left.
Is old fashioned cresote still avaiable and if so from where.

Many thanks in advance for all replies.

How about using it to keep your steel tools in good condition?

Wood/metal box filled with sand and the oil kept just inside your shed door, take the worst of the mud off your tools and plunge them into the sand, should keep polished and protect the metal.
