Hatching eggs - over 21 days
« on: March 22, 2011, 09:46 »
This is a bit of a saga!!
I got 6 hatching eggs and put in incubator.  Bought a new bulb for incubator, but after a week, bought another stronger bulb as temp not getting more than about 90c.  The new bulb got temp to around 100c for another 2 weeks.  No sign of hatching, and we are almost another week on (so 21 days at 100c).  Did I ought to cut my losses and start again?

Not too sure about this one I am sure there is somebody who will be of more help, I have had chicks hatch at 23 days so I would not give up hope yet. Did you candle the eggs so you know that there are chicks in them? Good luck and let us know how you get on.

at the end of last year I had some hatch (under a broody) at 28 days so you never know  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

If they have been in the incubator for 4 weeks (1 week at  90F and 3 weeks at 100F) then I think they are probably not going to hatch :(

What was your humidity like during the 4 weeks - as this also plays an important part.

did you mean 100 degrees Fahrenheit it should be at 99.5 or 101 they may hatch a day or two early, if you ment Celsius it was way to hot and sorry but you may have cooked your embryos.  if your using Celsius it's 37.5 the humidity should be around 40- 45% then the last 3 days should be 65%-67% but it also depends on what your hatching this is just the General for normal hatching chicken eggs.

It was 100F and I have both hygrometer (50%) and thermometer in the incubator.  I have used this successfully last year.
I have decided to start again.  Think it must have been a duff batch.
