I've got some celeriac that I've noticed have just sprouted in modules.  Is it worth my perservering and planting them out or am I too late?

They 'should' have been planted out in June (mine are still in modules, though  ) but I'll plant them at the weekend, all being well.
As long as we can keep them well-watered, I think they'll be fine  :D

They've really just germinated....I think I'll see how they go and plant them out for baby celeriac if they continue to thrive!

Like most of my winter veg I plan to transplant end of July/ start of August. I find if I sow too early like it says on the packet by the tme we want to eat them they are too big, same with Swedes, over time I have knocked them back to a point where I am now happy with the size come harvest time.

The question is when do you want to start to eat them?

Punk isn't dead...it's underground where it belongs. If it comes to the surface it's no longer punk...it's Green Day!

I've just planted a dozen module grown plants. I never pay too much attention to sowing/planting dates as you always end up with something and I'm not trying to produce championship-winning veg. Worst case scenario you could use whatever you've got as flavouring in soup !

Harry, you are bang on here.
I was chatting the other day with a mate on the plots, in the old days tradionally leeks would follow your new spuds after they had been cleared, nowadays everyone wants their leeks in by March then scratch their heads and moan because they have bolted by October
It seems the winter stuff has to be in  far too early nowadays, I look at our site in November and most are about 25% growing, by the end of December they are baron deserts!!

On mine I have veg through to March even going into April, I would say 50% of the plot at the end of December is growing and still producing.
As I said in my last post, it depends when you want your veg?

For me swede, celeriac, leeks, brassicas are winter veg, mid of November onwards so why sow in March/April? Of curse your local climate has an effect which you have to bear in mind.

I often curse my local climate but it makes no difference, I'm afraid.  ::)

Sorry, couldn't resist
