Finally jumped on the band wagon! :)

Today has been our first day of keeping chickens. We rescued some battery chickens this afterrnoon and are so pleased.
They are quite feathery for ex-batts. Take a look at the picture   :D

Hello! Lovely looking girls, I have ex-free range birds and they were much more bald than your girls when I got them, its such a joy watching them become real chickens!! Enjoy :D

Thanks everyone. We have not yet had them 24 hours and have enjoyed 3 fresh eggs this morning! I am delighted  :D

Thats great.

Are the eggs in the photo being cooked straight away?  If not think I have read to leave the dirt on them until you are going to use them.  They are covered in a bloom which is protective and if you wash this off germs can penetrate the egg shell as it is porus.  I brush any dried on dirt off and only wash the eggs just before using them.  If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me.   ???   :D

sorry for the late reply, yeah we ate them pretty much straight after i took the picture. I have heard something similar too about not washing them
