Lawn Scarifier/Raker
« on: September 11, 2008, 11:28 »
Can anyone recommend me a Lawn Scarifier/Raker for my garden.
At the moment my grass is covered in moss/thatch (and some weeds too).
Would like to scarify it and rake it soon and before putting on lawnfeed/weedkiller before the growing season stops for the winter. Our garden size is an average meduimed sized.

Mrs B was talking about changing her qualcast to a flymo, and she seemed happy with it:

If you want a petrol model, there are loads out there. I've used a small Sabo before on numerous occasions, and been very pleased with it. But they are ALL expensive!
Have you thought of hiring one for the day? :D

I was thinking of getting something from Mountfield - Just looked in B&Q and they had this for £129 -

I beleiver Mountfield is a good make - has anyone experienced problems with Mountfield?
So am I wasting my time at looking in electric ones?
Is a oppetrol one worth it for a meduim sized garden - to give you an idea how big it is - it roughtly take no more than 30 mins to mow the lawn.

Not being rude Auntie I would have thought just you stood on the lawn would be enough to scarify it (shall I just go now)

It's a much slower job raking than mowing, i would buy a petrol one (if I couldn't "borrow" one from work), most of the electric ones I have ever come across/fixed, have all had burnt out motors.
as for keeping it serious, not a chance chap, it'll never happen....

I have a very old Black and Decker lawn rake (Electric), still does the job. I suppose I should get a modern one, but while it still goes I'll use it.

they are defintely a lot cheaper than the electric/petrol ones. and I need the exercise!
Are they good for your hands though - i.e. blisters etc?
