I'm looking for some new interesting recipes for chutneys, especially Christmassy type ones to put away for gifts.

What can you suggest that you've tried and liked?  :D
Are we nearly there yet?

The sloe and bramley apple jelly was fantastic and would be divine with turkey, we are down to our last jar which is being kept until the big day.

I've also done an onion and thyme chutney which went fast

Here's the Sweet Pepper one, it's very nice, will be even better in a few weeks:-

Sweet Pepper Relish

6 red peppers and 6 green peppers
2lbs green tomatoes
1 1/2lbs cooking apples
1 1/2lbs onions
1lb sugar
1 oz salt
1tsp allspice
1 1/2pints vinegar
1/4 oz chillies (its up to you)
1/4 oz cloves
1/4oz crushed root ginger
1/2oz mustard seed
1oz peppercorns

Wipe peppers and discard seeds, wipe toms, peel onions, peel and core apples.

Chop or mince all vegetables and fruit coarsely and put into pan.

Put spices into a muslin bag.

Simmer the mixture in the vinegar for 2-3 hours till it is thick and then remove spices.

Cool and put into jars and label.

Cranberry, Port and Orange

Ingredients
1 orange
175g/6oz caster sugar
5 tbsp port
359g/12oz cranberries, fresh or frozen
1 eating apple, finely chopped

Method
1. Finely grate the zest from the orange and squeeze the juice. Dissolve the sugar in a medium pan with 4 tbsp port and the orange juice.
2. Stir in the cranberries, apple and orange rind. Cook uncovered for 8-10 minutes (slightly longer if the cranberries are frozen) until the fruit is soft and the juices are slightly thickened.
3. Stir in the remaining 1 tbsp port. Serve warm or cold.
