Jaydig. Thanks. Glad it's just not me. For the first time I've written off my carrots, parsnips and beetroot.  Apart from a handful of carrots I've got going in tubs which were sown early. Ah well, my onions and garlic are the best ever. Although I have just seen some rust on the garlic but hopefully not detrimental.

l harvested my first beetroot at the weekend. I have Boltardy, Chioggia, a white one, a yellow one , and Cylindra. All but the last had some between billiard ball and tennis ball size. Sown in modules in March / April in four-tier mini greenhouse at home and planted out on plot in late April I think. I was going to sow a lot more direct this year, but I am concerned about germination and slugs!

Same here as others. Never had a problem last year but this year beetroot sewn and nothing. Sewed turnip,peas,spinach,mange tout and kale and nothing showed apart from few peas. Very disappointing and waste of seeds! Will try spinach and beetroot in pots now and hope to get a crop  :(

We've caught the sparrows nipping off the leaves up here on beetroot and chard. Everyone is now using netting to protect.
