to buy or not to buy HOWARD the rotovator
« on: February 21, 2007, 17:52 »
When this half plot is eventually mine it will have been ploughed, as its a bramble patch at the moment and heavily covered in different types of grass, and we are both the other side of 55 and overweight should i let my bloke buy me the howard rotovator that is for sale locally?, or should ask for the Merry tiller, or should i say no to both? He prefers the Howard cause its self propelling and the plot is on a slope and waterlogged. What do you all think?
If you cant be a good example then you must  be a horrrible warning........

I have several rotovators Liz. Both the wheeled type (Howard) and the crawler type (merry tiller). The crawler type dig well to quite a depth. And after several passes will leave the ground suitable for planting. They do require a bit of technique to use them though.
I prefer the wheeled type mainly because you can very easily adjust the depth of cultivation. This is very important if you wish to use your rotovator to kill the weeds rather than spread them. Also they will go between the rows of you crops easier. They tend to have narrower working widths but they seem to travel faster. I think the wheeled ones are easier to use overall. If you get accessorized they all have various attachment for ridging your spuds ect.
If you send me your Email by PM i will send you the Howard book of rotovating as an attachment, which is interesting reading. You will never look at a Merry tiller in the same light again.
And finally Get a Honda.

Good evening all, and a hearty thanks to big bad frankie. Paul printed and bound my copy of the attatchment all about Howard, its my bedtime reading, well lets think about this i am going to bed and getting my hands on Howard that seem just fine a dandy to me. I think Shaun asked what howard size is... its a 350      and as you all know it takes a woman to handle a man.................hugs to all

you will be very happy with your Howard especially a 350. Shaun will know but you can get a little plough for that Howard and if you are getting rid of weeds you cat bet ploughing then a few weeks later shallow rotovating. leaving the weed buried.
