New year, new thread :)
-
Love this thread as it always reminds me to get something sorted from either the fridge or freezer! Tonight it's spag bol from Misspenders.
-
Today it will be Christmas beef ftf with whatever but I bought a mahoosive cauliflower in Sainsbury’s yesterday for 99p, the others were small :D so it will involve that in some shape or form
-
Tonight Ham and cheese omelette with new baby pots and peas, rest of pineapple with yoghurt :)
-
Gastro lemon/pepper fish with peas and coleslaw
-
Jacket potato with cheese and anything else left in the fridge that needs eating. We have a pack of cherry tomatoes and some large ones and we've decided to cook them tomorrow down into passata before they go 'over'.
-
Still not done any shopping so it's back to pasta and if I can find a tin of tuna that and some pesto.
-
Taking a leaf out of Newshoot's book and using the last of the small sausages we got cheap and making toad in the hole. One of Paul's favourites, new potatoes, carrots and onion gravy with it.
-
piri piri chicken dish with pilua rice, no pud :)
-
Got a beef stew in my new slow-cooker (the old one died a few days ago :( )
-
Chicken stew & for himself-dumplings
-
in my new slow-cooker (the old one died a few days ago :( )
Next to the kettle I also think mine is one of the few items I'd bother replacing if it died.
-
New Year’s Day dinner (postponed as I got drafted into work).
Roast beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds, braised red cabbage from the freezer, roasted carrots, some peas and last but not least - gravy :)
Now feeling rather full :)
-
Prawn mango masala with rice.
-
Fish pie I’m told but as himself is on daughter technical help duties this afternoon I think I must be making it so it will have prawns at one end :D, carrots, peas & broccoli to go with no doubt oh and a slice of bread & butter for himself I should think
-
Sardines in chilli oil with spaghetti, salad bits on the side ;)
-
The lump of piggy I was defrosting hasn't so I'm at a bit of a loss - Beans and a few oven chips I suppose as it's Friday but I'd have liked something else to go with it freezer and cupboard rummage later.
-
Salmon and prawn pasta bake with courgette ribbons and anything else I can find laying around that needs using up. Garlic bread on the side.
-
Beef casserol for a change tonight, so it might be fish for Sunday :D pudding tin peaches and tiny ice cream :)
-
Chicken and bacon pasta bake with pots and carrots.
-
Piggy is in the slow cooker, chunky mixed veg, mash and stuffing to be done. Might get a tub of apple puree out as apple sauce.
-
Left over beef stew turned into a curry ::) with rice and salad bits/chutney to go with it.
-
H/M Chilli con carne with pilua rice and 1/2 a baghette :)
-
Don't laugh - I am having a big bowl of porridge, with added cloves, cardamom pods, a strong apple and blackcurrant juice (only a d.spoon, it is very strong) When cooked, I shall add some soaked apricots.
My tummy will be hot and full. Mrs Bouquet
-
I found some hm spicy baked beans in the freezer, so put a cheesy mash top on them and baked until a nice goo of melty bubbling cheese had formed on top. We had leftover sliced roast beef reheated in gravy with it :)
-
I found some hm spicy baked beans in the freezer, so put a cheesy mash top on them and baked until a nice goo of melty bubbling cheese had formed on top.
Don't suppose there's any left for meeee? :D
-
Himself had the leftover chicken stew without any chicken but fresh dumplings so I had a bought  shock horror a frozen ready meal chicken tikka, I added microwave rice  leftover veg, freshly microwaved puppadums, salad bits from the fridge & chutneys. It was ok but I won’t be making it a habit 8)
-
Cumberland pie with pots and carrots.

Sorry we wolfed the lot. Comfort food was the order of the day
Tonight I have my eye on prawns in the freezer I bought for Christmas and we never ate for some reason. I might defrost some hm tomato sauce and do seafood pasta as I have also spied some seafood sticks in there :)
-
R chicken & all the usual suspects. The carcass is much needed to replace my jars of stock in the pantry, so that will be a job for tomorrow, canning that.
-
I did a swop round this week so were having Fish and chips tonight with peas, fruit crumble and yoghurt :D
-
Aromatic duck, hoisin sauce, pancakes and cucumber cut into small slices (sorry brain has gone into 'shut down mode'). Matchsticks is the word I was looking for. Bought a 'kit' with most of the ingredients in Aldi which I've finally convinced Paul to go in.
-
Wighty, the cheffy term for cutting veg into matchsticks is Julienne. 8) I'm having ham hock and mushroom tagliatelle with pots and whatever veg needs using up.
-
Leftovers again I think, not sure if I should do roasties rather than mash today, they wouldn't keep well for a second dinner tomorrow though.
-
As the weather is so dismal, I've put a small portion of cubed beef, with lentils and loads of veg, into the slow cooker. I may add some dumplings later....
-
More of yesterday’s with added mash & veg.
-
Useing up odds and bobs before we go shopping, burger and salad, coleslaw. Fruit yoghurt :)
-
Tuna pasta bake with pots and carrots.
-
As the weather is so dismal, I've put a small portion of cubed beef, with lentils and loads of veg, into the slow cooker.
More of the same, but adding some curry powder to liven things up a bit :D
-
Last of the piggy tonight. I could have probably have done another 2 meals out of it so much better than the bland, chewy and dry pork chops they sell.
-
Chicken breast and veg rice, pineapple and yoghurt or ice cream :)
-
I found a 1kg bag of diced chicken breast and a large bag of stir fry veg in the freezer. Put it all in a casserole with Ras an Hanout, tin of chopped tomatoes, some puree, and a few other bits and bobs, oh, and very small diced potato. I had a portion today at 2.30 ish, that way the kitchen windows aren't covered in condensation.
Bagged a portion for the freezer. Thats done me for four good meals.. Maybe a marmite sandwich later, yes definitely about 7pm ish. Mrs Bouquet
-
Sausage casserole and mash. I think there's some carrots left. We have some kidney beans or similar in the cupboard so might add them as well.
-
Sausage casserole and mash. I think there's some carrots left. We have some kidney beans or similar in the cupboard so might add them as well.
We've got that tomorrow night Sausage casserole and mash. :)
-
Smoked haddock risotto with poached eggs, did it oven baked for a change but it wasn’t as nice. Himself said I hadn’t stirred the love into it! I told him he’d have to make do with the love I’d stirred into the 12 jars of marmalade I’d made him today…hence why I didn’t want to stand & stir a pan of risotto for an hour
-
Chicken Tikka with pilau rice.
-
There's a little bit of pork left, I might spice it up today and do some cajun seasoned pots using the meat juices left in the slow cooker and a tin of new pots found in the cupboard. I also found a tin of "hot chicken curry" so that'll be on the menu soon too.
-
Corned beef hash with fridge gravel salad, I think there's some coleslaw in there as well

-
Jacket potato with a mixed salad cold meats coleslaw pickles, 3 picklets with tiny honey :)
-
I've eaten too much fresh baked sultana loaf this afternoon  so just some tinned chicken soup this evening.
-
Beef hotpot followed by the worst steamed (microwave!) sponge I’ve ever made
-
I had a few white baps at lunch with some slices of fried black pudding on them. By few I mean all and by some I also mean all. :nowink: I'm still utterly confused by what the difference might be between a bap, a bun and a roll.
-
Up here, a bap is a floury-covered bun, a bun has no flour on it, and a roll is,well, roll-shaped. I'm having chicken, leek and spinach hotpot.
-
Down here a Bap is almost flat ready for burgers, a bun is round and a roll is long :D
Baked sea bass with a few chips and peas not sure about pud :)
-
Down here a Bap is almost flat ready for burgers, a bun is round and a roll is long :D
That's what I thought - but it's not.
If I want a simple round thing to stuff a burger in, ideally with sesame seeds on is it a burger bun or burger bap ? At ocado and Sainsbury's they're buns at waitrose it's a bap. Half the time people want to get brioche involved too :nowink: and this thing is a crusty roll - it is both round and flat but not at all a roll ...
Today I'm having breaded cod and a few oven chips - I at least know what they are !

-
Beef and butter bean stew, which is already in the slow cooker. I am looking forward to the kitchen smelling wonderful for a few hours :D
Oooh - I just found this in the buttons that show when you are writing a post This could be fun :)
-
Chicken thighs heading off to the slow cooker just as soon as I've washed it as it's covered in plaster dust. Probably spice them up a bit, cajun or jerk depending what I can find.
-
Pork Steaks, hubby says as a mini roast but I’m not sure
Scrap that, the pork steaks turned out to be 2 packs of bacon , so plan b courtesy of himself, and a rummage in the freezer, chicken breasts with bacon & onion & garlic roasted with roast potatoes, peas, carrots & cauliflower with a nice gravy
-
Fish pie with pots and broccoli.
-

2 weeks into the new year and I'm fed up with having to think of, cook and eat meals already. Fridge gravel today - chicken thigh, some leftover mash, the half can of baked beans from Friday and probably a few mushies.

Also this is a fun one. Good blokey type American food that might be up your street.

-
Time to make a batch of Cornish pasties, so beef is defrosting :)
-
Veggie rice. I have some pork strips that need something done with them to go with it. Currently searching for marinades and rubs to see if anything tickles my fancy.
-
Pork pie and salad bits that all need eating, No pud something later may be :)
-
I got a half price gammon joint from work a while ago that has been lurking in the freezer, so dumped that in the slow cooker with some sliced onions, a few other veg, herbs, lots of black pepper and a little bit of water. We had some of it for tea with potatoes and cabbage and there is a load left.
Tomorrow may be a messed around version of mac and cheese with gammon. Correction, tomorrow will definitely be that. I mentioned the idea to OH and he is fairly insistent it happens now
-
Tomorrow may be a messed around version of mac and cheese with gammon.
Can recommended, along with a goodly amount of whole grain mustard in the cheese sauce ;)
-
Beef lasagne with pots and maybe the rest of a leek I dug up last week.
-
I went with a sriracha and chicken seasoning on the pork. As ML used to say when I complained about her cooking, "you've eaten it, so it couldn't have been that bad."
Thursday is normally pasta day - might do mac and cheese myself tonight.
-
Baked plaice, lyonnaise potatoes, peas, carrots, broccoli. Could do with a steamed sponge & custard to stick to our ribs to warm us up
-
Spag bol tonight, pud syrup sponge pud with a tiny bit of ice cream :)
-
Ham hock with mushrooms and tagliatelle in a cream and cheese sauce.
-
Friday - it's an excuse for chips :nowink: The last piece of breaded cod to go with them, there are some mushies but other veggies might be an issue. Note to self : don't use the baked beans - bean casserole tomorrow.
-
Fish, chips & mushy peas from the chippy , it’s garden club’s annual skittles evening with supper included
-
Cheese onion and tomato flan - I thought I had chips in the freezer, but haven't :( so some skinny roast potatoes and peas to go with it :)
-
My usual Sea bass baked with a few chips and peas, NO pud :)
-
Lamb Rogan josh with rice methinks.
-
Lamb Rogan josh with rice methinks.
Sounds like an excellent idea to me, even better if someone else makes it. :nowink:
A chorizo and bean casserole will be going into the slow cooker when I get 5 minutes. I think a bit of mash to go with it.
-
Chicken stir fry with 1/2 a baghette :)
-
Paella from out of the freezer, a reduced ready meal for two , we really shouldn't have bothered opening the shop today as we both sat there and had only three customers.
-
CBA so.....add a tin of sweetcorn to a tin of Tuna, add a slurp of chilli mayo and stir, then open a packet of crackers...

-
Leftovers bean casserole - needs more mash doing and I never know if I should put a veggie with it or if the beans count.
-
Well it was going to be roast chicken, but TRASHCO have just cancelled my order 2hrs before the delivery was due >:( >:( >:(
I'll have a rummage through the freezer, but probably have to do something with leftovers....
-
TRASHCO have just cancelled my order 2hrs before the delivery was due >:( >:( >:(
Did they give you a reason, the weather? I'd certainly be sending a complaint email, that's just not right to cancel rather than reschedule.
-
We are having a mini roast with chicken legs, rather than the whole chicken. I have plot spuds prepped already, braised plot red cabbage defrosting, plus swede and Yorkshire puds to go with it. I’ll find something green (peas from the freezer ???) and also make some spoon standing.
Nearly forgot - pigs in blankets from the freezer as well, which were bought for Christmas and never used. That’s why I am not going too mad with the roast meat element :)
-
TRASHCO have just cancelled my order 2hrs before the delivery was due >:( >:( >:(
Did they give you a reason, the weather? I'd certainly be sending a complaint email, that's just not right to cancel rather than reschedule.
I've sent a complaint already, as no reason was given by them, and no answer yet. I've managed to reschedule for Tuesday am, but I'm still cross about it, of course. Especially the bit where they said "You'll receive your refund in 3-5 working days" what if I didn't have the money to buy food, before then?
-
That's disgusting
Tonight i have a lge double lamb chop one of my favorites OH has chicken breast with all the trimings, fresh veg and roasties. Pud might be Choc brownie with ice cream as i made a tray of them this morning.
-
I'm still cross about it, of course. Especially the bit where they said "You'll receive your refund in 3-5 working days" what if I didn't have the money to buy food, before then?
I would be cross as well.
They need to explain themselves and I would hope offer you some compensation by way of vouchers. If you had no more money to buy food, or were housebound or just stranded without a car and no shops nearby, that would be awful, but bad enough they have let you down and on a day when venturing out would not be wise.
I know at work we would be getting pulled up on that if we just cancelled from the shop. It has happened before and severe butt kicking ensued. Even when drivers don’t show up or vans break down, we have to ring everyone to see if they want to reschedule or ditch the order and get a refund.
Let us know what excuse they give. It will be interesting to see what they come back with.
-
Roast ham with a mustard & maple syrup glaze, had been slow cooked firstly ( was the joint of ham I bought for Christmas but didn’t get round to cooking so it went in the freezer) roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese ftf, peas, carrots & broccoli & I made a sauce with the cooking stock & onions, with added mustard powder & maple syrup. Very nice it was too even if I say so myself
-
There's a small amount of casserole left but not really enough for a meal and only a few spuds which are too small to warrant mashing, I'm doing a fresh loaf and will pick the broc out of the mixed veg- bit of a miss-match to use up bits.
-
I'm doing a fresh loaf, are you making that yourself ??
Turkey burger chips and bake beans fruit yoghurt for pud :)
-
I'm doing a fresh loaf, are you making that yourself ??
In the bread machine MrsPea, I know but at least it's not a packet mix, If you saw my kitchen you'd understand why I'm not doing it old school.
-
I made a fruit loaf yesterday, after hearing about my Tesco delivery cancellation - comfort food :nowink:
I found a small container of 'curry' in the freezer, so that's defrosting for tea - not sure if it's chicken or beef though ::) I'll cook a veggie fried rice to stretch it :)
-
I regret getting rid of mine as i didn't use enough 'other half 'said get rid of it so i did BAD mistake
-
I regret getting rid of mine as i didn't use enough 'other half 'said get rid of it so i did BAD mistake
I don't use mine as often as used to (daily) but as I only shop every 2 weeks it's easier than freezing a loaf or dealing with blue bread :nowink:
Pasta bake tonight.
edit <scratch that the mince is still frozen> Huge case of CBA anyway. Oven on for some chips.
-
Chicken stew in the pressure cooker and for me freshly harvested purple sprouting broccoli cos it’s ready
-
Wet mince new pots and peas , pineapple and ice cream :)
-
CBA again, so just defrosted a pasty, with some fridge gravel salad and coleslaw.
-
Trying again with the mince. I do have everything needed to make a cornish pasty which is tempting
-
Same as Sunday plus roast parsnips
-
Lamb kebabs with coleslaw and the usual salad bits.
-
Cottage pie. Not sure about the veg at the moment.
-
Cottage pie.
Here too assuming my shopping is delivered and the spuds aren't missing. I forgot to order any veg but there are some bendy carrots from before Christmas in the chiller drawer.
-
Sausage casserole with rice tonight something different, not sure about pud :)
-
Cajun pork chop, with cabbage & boiled spuds.
-
I’ve had a few busy days at work with tea being quick fix pasta or other perfectly OK but long term not that satisfying dinners.
Put that right tonight with another mini roast using chicken thighs, plot spuds, cabbage, tenderstem broccoli, Yorkshire puds and spoon standing. OH also managed plot raspberries set in jelly, but I bailed after the main course
-
Just easing back into it gently then NS ?
Friday, no brainer day. Bought a pie since I couldn't find the energy to make a pasty the other day. Probably mushies and beans unless I can find something else for a change.
-
Battered cod and chips. Went to the farm shop on behalf of FIL yesterday and got a full tray of mushrooms for £1. All sliced up today and now in the freezer. Will do for adding to spag bols etc.
-
Went to the farm shop on behalf of FIL yesterday and got a full tray of mushrooms for £1. All sliced up today and now in the freezer.
That was lucky :D
I'm cooking lemon/pepper fish with corn on the cob and coleslaw.
-
Chicken breasts in a onion, garlic, tomato & basil sauce with mushrooms for me & spinach with pasta for me & gnocchi for himself, glass of red vino colapso
-
Usual Friday night dinner Baked Sea Bass with chips and peas, Banana ice cream choc sauce and nuts :)
-
Just easing back into it gently then NS ?
I am trying to clear the freezer out so I can defrost it and all the winter menu stuff is in my sights. I unearthed a pork joint today. Well it says it is pork. Could be woolly mammoth with the amount of ice on it ::)
I’m cooking that later with some plot braised red cabbage and roasted beetroots I also discovered. Leftovers are destined for a couple of tubs of curry base which I know are lurking in there as well.
-
mmmm piggy with cabbage. Chicken thighs in the slow cooker here. They're very variable, last time they were really good, but it's back to mainly skin and bone on these :( It's remove the skin and shred the meat off them, I might curry some as I've found a jar of pataks rogan josh best before 11/18 which I should really use up.
-
jar of pataks rogan josh best before 11/18 which I should really use up.
::) :lol: :lol: :lol:
-
Both CBA so were having a takeaway curry
-
Got an M & S voucher for 'back then ' and today went and spent it, cottage pie for tonight
and some 'treats' for later, thankyou to my Godmother who worked for Marks until she retired from the age of 16. She ran the children's section at Basingstoke.
-
Sliced chicken breast, stir-fried with veggies and sweet chilli sauce.YUM!
-
Savoury mince and mash with carrots, peas& sprouts
-
Beef lasagne with some veg - not sure what.
-
::) :lol: :lol: :lol:
Turns out it was jalfrezi not rogan josh. Either way it was fine just not very good. No heat and no flavour, tomato ketchup with mild chilli power would be a good description. My curry munchies are not satisfied.
Rest of the chicken tonight, with mushrooms in a peppercorn sauces I think and spuds, probably mashed.
-
Roast lamb, spuds & parsnips, steamed sprouts, carrots & peas. Gravy without a doubt & maybe Yorkshire puds as I’ve got quite a few eggs. Might roast some of the tromboncino squash that needs using up to, not had it roasted.
-
::) :lol: :lol: :lol:

5 year old spices marinated in sauce, hmmmmm ketchup with a bit of chilli would be about it I guess
I hate to inflame more curry munchies, but we are having the leftover pork in a pumpkin and dhal curry base with some frozen spinach chucked in for good measure :)
-
OH haveing Steak and Kidney pie mine Steak and Ale pie from our local butchers juist to see what there like with fresh veg, I made peach and raspberry crumble with yoghurt or custard. :)
-
Roast lamb, potatoes and parsnips. Green beans and carrots to go with. Yorkshire puddings and gravy.
-
Cooking some skinny lamb chops in mint gravy (there'd be nothing left if I roasted or grilled them ::)) with peas, carrots and mash :)
-
Quite a lot of lamb gravy left over, too good to waste - so I soaked some Pinto beans overnight, will add those and some more of the usual veg, to make a thick, mostly, veg stew.
-
End up with mac and cheese last night (don't ask). I found a bit of cauli in the freezer so the plan is for a chicken dinner tonight.
-
Got a whole tray of mushrooms at the farm shop reduced to £1.00. All sliced up and in the freezer, so mushroom omelettes tonight with chips. There might be cheese involved as well as I'm not as keen on mushrooms as Paul is.
-
Baked cod, hm oven chips & mushy peas & a baked tomato each….we know how to push the boat out
-
Jacket potato with a mixed salad cold meats and coleslaw and pickles, rest of crumble with custard :)
-
I need to finish of the chicken tonight, I'm at a bit of a loss what to do with it though, I'll have another deep dive in the freezer later to see if I can find anything veggie like.
-
Lamb hotpot with Sunday’s leftover lamb, fridge clear out included, all prepped & just awaiting the sliced potatoes on top as it goes in the oven, himself is in charge of that bit as I’ll be out then :D
-
Spicy chicken bits with veg rice :) NO PUD !!
-
A piece of quiche ftf a couple of slices of ham and fridge gravel salad, plus the obligatory coleslaw
-
Cottage pie tonight with some veg.
-
Mince beef as it's on it's used by, probably a chilli or pasta bake as there are no veggies left for the planned cottage pie.
-
A piece of quiche ftf a couple of slices of ham and fridge gravel salad, plus the obligatory coleslaw
Mmmmm quiche - haven’t had that for ages, so after a freezer delve unearthed pastry and some smoked salmon (I thought that had been eaten at Christmas ), I’ve made two smoked salmon, cheese and spring onion quiches.
One for tonight, but will be warming it up and serving with hot veg as it has been a grey day and fairly chilly day, plus another for OH to have a go at on Friday when I am working late :)
-
Scampi and chips, real treat as we haven't had scampi for a while. We'll look like prawns by the end of the day as we shared a prawn sandwich at lunchtime.
-
A quick fry up tonight sausage turkey rasher egg and bake beans, banana tiny ice cream and nuts :)
-
Roasted potatoes & chicken thighs with peas, carrots, broad beans ftf & freshly harvested sprouts with a blob of mayonnaise, and very nice it was too.
-
Chinese sweet chilli chicken with microwave bag mixed veg, carrot, broccoli, green beans and peas.
-
I roasted chicken plus spuds. Did stuffing cos the memsahb likes it but I'm not so keen but did a good gravy
-
Spag bol tonight NO PUD :)
-
Lasagne with garlic bread with it. There are a few tomatoes and the last bit of cucumber to finish up as well.
-
Hm fish pie with peas & carrots
-
HM Beef curry with cauliflower rice and pickles.
-
Hm fish pie with peas & carrots, edit to add sweet corn and a baked tomato added for extra colour :D
Actually I ended up making four more individual ones for the freezer as I’d been to the fish man this morning & bought more pie mix, so thought while I was making why not ! :D
-
Mozzarella stuffed pork meatballs in tomato sauce. It was a Waitrose offering that I found when I visited the garden centre today. We used to have a Sainsbury’s in there, but they have gone all posh on us
Anyway it was reduced to £1.79 and was OK. Not worth the £5.99 original price, but the sauce was pretty tasty over the tray baked spuds and veg I did with it :)
-
Leftover chilli and rice. Still enough left for tomorrow too - not really sure if that's a good or bad thing
-
Cheese stuffed fishcakes from M & S, last of the voucher spending that I (we) did. We have some carrots and string beans left so I think they'll be used up.
-
My usual Sea bass chips and peas :D
-
Haddock in parsley sauce with peas and mash :)
-
Finishing the chilli, wanted to put a jacket with it but there's nothing big enough it will have to be just plain rice again.
-
We've also got chilli to night with pilua rice and 1/2 a baghette :D
-
Roast pork, potatoes, parsnips with carrots, leeks and stuffing on the side. Gravy of course.
-
chicken casserole with dumplings , Apple pie and ice cream :)
-
Roast chicken, potatoes & parsnips, stuffing,Yorkshire puds, peas, carrots,b.beans ftf, sprouts, fresh pineapple , lots of gravy. Choice of puds for himself -freshly made mince pies or apple cake, he’s already taste tested the mince pies and opted for 2 more for pudding
I shall have banana or more pineapple with yogurt cos I’m a good girl.
-
Took out some cooking bacon to put in the leftover rice , when I opened it there were 2 large slabs rather than the usual trimmings. Change of plan and I cooked them like gammon steaks with a few spicy wedges and some mushrooms. One left for tomorrow, assuming it doesn't end up on a sandwich.
-
Turkey burger chips and bake beans, rest of apple pie with yoghurt :)
-
Chicken with Greek gigantes beans from the freezer and hm tomato sauce.
I’m going to make sour dough flat breads to go with it.
-

Torn between goldfish Chinese style chicken curry or a chicken dinner with the usual trimmings.
-
Spag. bol. garlic bread on the side. For once got organised for tomorrow and got what I think is chicken out.
-
Spicy fish cakes with veg rice, banana and ice cream :)
-
Was supposed to be sweet and sour pork with rice today made by me. But I’ve got the lurgy so himself is ministering to me and cooking so it’s roast port slices & all the usual trimmings I expect.
-
Off to bed if you've got the plague. If your other half sorts out a roast piggy dinner all the better as long as it comes with spoonstanding, stuffing , roasties and some apple sauce. :tongue2: :tongue2:
I've have some grey mince I had forgotten about needing to be used, might end up in some pasta.
-
Hm chicken an mushroom pie, mash and carrots with. I'll admit the puff pastry was ready rolled but as most chefs on the telly say it's okay to use the shop stuff, I'll go with that.
-
Plaice in breadcrumbs with chips, peas and coleslaw :)
-
Still clearing the freezer so raked out some bits today that I think were bought for Christmas breakfasts that then never happened and we had breakfast for tea
Bacon and potato cakes, plus eggs and leftover Greek Gigantes beans instead of baked beans.
I think tomorrow might be D-day (defrost day). I’ll see if I can muster the enthusiasm in the morning
-
Rest of the mince off to the freezer and back to the chicken. I'm absolutely shattered today so it's in the slow cooker for shredding later, probably put it with pasta as that's about the least amount of effort I can think of, spicy rice preferred if I can summon the energy.
-
Hubby is still in charge so pressure cooker chicken stew will be the order of the day if he’s up to it after taking on the entertainment of our grandson for most of the day
-
The freezer is defrosted :D
Tonight we have soddages and braised plot red cabbage which were in the freezer, plus the last of the plot spuds. That lot is in the oven and I am contemplating something green. It might have to be peas. Opening a bag and chucking them in boiling water is about much effort as I can cope with
-
Cajun chicken, peas, coleslaw and oven chips.
-
T be decided, nothing taken out of the freezer as I was sent to sit down after dinner last night as still got the lurgy :(. But it appears it’s still my remit to sort out what’s for tea
-
I was sent to sit down after dinner last night as still got the lurgy :(
You haven't caught the nasty chest infection that's doing the rounds have you? Off to bed, a phone call to your local takeaway will sort out dinner, I suggest a stupidly hot curry.
Breaded cod today a few oven chips and beans I think, no brainer and all in the oven on 1 tray.
-
CBA here, so I'll be cooking spaghetti and stirring through some Sardines in Oil with Chilli, Lime & Coriander from Trashco. I've got some salad bits in the fridge, if I can be bothered ::)

No thankfully not a chest infection, but I’m doing my best for it not to turn into one after the last 2 I had floored me.
I’ve rummaged in the freezer and found bolognaise so that & pasta for me & I found a half bag of frozen gnocchi for himself & that’s as much as I can muster. There is a defrosted cheese sauce that didn’t get used up the other day & I toyed in turning it & the bolognaise into a lasagne but that’s a bridge too far
-
We're trying basa for the first time, in a herb and lemon tempura batter and chips. We were going to have fish fingers then Paul found these. I think there are some peas for me in the freezer.
-

-
Pork faggots for us with new pots and veg, Apple and blackberry crumble with custard :)
-
Defrosting my last spinach lentil and chickpea curry, don't really want it though and it feels like a bit of a waste. Something is waking me up at 3:45 each morning lately and it's leaving me so knackered for the rest of the day I just CBA.

Which one did you buy Snow? I've been tempted on several occasions, but have resisted so far.
I thought I'd treat myself to liver and onions, mash and a nice savoy cabbage today. I'll give you 1 guess as to what is the only missing item from my ocado order. Looks like I'll end up with sawhedges instead.
Edit : Grumble - the savoy is tennis ball size too >:(

We bought Lakeland’s own make 2 drawer with see through panels that should sync both drawers to finish at the same time, but we failed miserably at accomplishing that attribute tonight for our
Chicken & chips.
We’d discussed it on & off & decided to go and look, there’s a shop on the Dobbies site & I just happened to have a 20% discount voucher that was expiring on Monday, so it was £99.99 - 20% =£79.99
This one

I found a brilliant but ridiculously simple recipe using those big hard old stems on shop-bought broccoli...
Just peel and small-cube them and use them like kohl-rabi in a cheese sauce! Chuck in a couple of spring onions while they're steaming and you're away!
Great with a 1/4 pounder and some h/m garlic bread!

Skipped the sawhedge and mash last night and nuked a spud instead. Trying again tonight.

Peas, carrots & cauliflower with a ftf cheese sauce as my pie had cheese sauce with it as I forgot the parsley when I batch cooked them , actually made a nice change.
Lunch was fried rice- leftover cooked rice needed using, various fridge gravel veg and finally tried the kimchi my son made & gave me to try- he said it was good in fried rice, and it wasn’t too bad.

Quiche Lorraine with jacket potatoes. The corner shop has had a change of management and their supplies are no longer coming from 'up country'. Gemma the new Manager talks to us and I can now get the digestive biscuits I like rather than the ones that they dictated we had. -

-
I've got in a complete mix-muddle this week meal wise and ended up nuking a spud tonight with cheese and beans - not very satisfying :( My plans for liver and onions for tomorrow has also been trashed again as theres no lambs liver in stock again (4th shopping in a row  ).

Weekly rummage through the odds and ends drawer in the freezer (a.k.a dumping ground of all leftovers, extra ingredients and who knows what else) turned up a small tub of chilli. There were also cooked beans, corn tortillas and grated cheese in there, so scavenged a meal of cheese and chilli quesadillas plus refried beans.
The fridge had some salad bits that needed using, so they went on the side :)
I reckon I get at least 1 main meal for us both and a couple of lunches for 1 of us out of that drawer every week and it stops the fridge getting filled up with bits that don’t go together.
-
I did put some beef short ribs and the smaller spuds in the slow cooker yesterday but by the time it was done I didn't really want it. I always think it's a waste of good food to eat it when I feel like that so I had a cheese sandwich instead. Trying again today.

Finishing off the pie, mash and mixed veg to go with it. As it just needs nuking I might do a late lunch rather than wait.

I'm being treated out tonight as life has been a bit hard at the moment I lost my Mum at 99yrs she nearly made a 100. It happened on Good Friday :(

Yes. I get them from Waitalot and, although it's not one of my favourites as the sauce is a bit runny, it's good value. I love their cottage pie and tuna pasta bake. I can cook but lose the will to live at the end of the day. Do my own veg and pots though.
-
I can cook but lose the will to live at the end of the day.
I feel much the same of late and have been considering the ready meals as a quick fix.
Yesterdays liver was sadly disappointing nothing but trimmings and tubes. Always a risk with liver but it was particularly bad :( I did leave some for tonight but I think Max can have it instead, I'll finish the bean casserole with the leftover mash.
-
I've got mince defrosting, probably turn it into a chilli.... inspiration is lacking today ::)
Inspiration of lacking everyday, so it often finishes up a marmite sandwich with either some cheese or lettuce inside it. Mrs B
-
Today I have a pork loin slice defrosting, was going to do a full roast, but after digging I can't be
ar bothered, so I'll grill it and have it & salad in a pitta bread...

-
A couple of small chicken thighs are defrosting (they are stuck together so couldn't separate them !)
Haven't decided what to do with them yet, though ::)
-
Himself had the leftover beef hotpot from Saturday so I had a …shock, horror frozen ready meal-lasagne, it was ok but very runny but was helped by a goodly amount of grated cheese added to it & browned, served with some perennial brassicas, supposed to be kale, but was more psb & a little cauliflower looking head and lots of the leaves. Think my iron levels will be up tomorrow :nowink:

-
Sorry Lardman in advance. Lamb and dhal curry that had been in the slow cooker all day. I put part of it in a pan and added potatoes and some wilted plot greens, plus we had rice on the side.
I’ve been on the plot digging so carb overload just sort of happened. I guess I was hungry
-
Tagliatelle with some pots and veg.
-
Lamb and dhal curry that had been in the slow cooker all day.
Sigh... :tongue2: :(
I can't bring myself to buy lamb any more, at nearly 40 quid a leg it doesn't feel worth it when it's just me.
There's spinach and tomato quiche from somewhere in the freezer that needs using up so a break from fishy Friday and a slice is going with some oven chips and mushies and a few other veggies tonight.
-
Lamb and dhal curry that had been in the slow cooker all day.
Sigh... :tongue2: :(
I can't bring myself to buy lamb any more, at nearly 40 quid a leg it doesn't feel worth it when it's just me.
We have them frozen at work for £20 each, but they were 1/2 price in the run up to Easter. Obviously you get what you pay for, but they are more than fine for curry once chunked up.
Tonight is burgers (50/50 steak mince and finely chopped mushrooms), oven chips and salad.
-
We have them frozen at work for £20 each, but they were 1/2 price in the run up to Easter.
 Im not sure we have one locally and the website doesn't like my VPN but I'd add it to the rotation even at 20 quid, as most stuff ends up in the slow cooker one way or another now.
Would be considerably nicer than the quiche tonight, which turned out to be a vegan plant based thing that I had to eat with a spoon :nowink:
-
Lardman, keep an eye on Trashco, at Christmas and then again at Easter they had legs of lamb, beef & pork(or gammon) joints all at half price. Each time I've bought one of each, frozen them and gradually work my way through them
I'm just hoping they'll do the same at Whitsun .....
-
Cottage pie, pots and carrots for me.
-
I had a look at sansbods after- 26 normal 13 with nectar card >:( I've signed up, I'm not a fan of every man and his dog having my shopping data but needs must as the devil drives.
Leftovers today - with a jacket if I can find one big enough not to shrivel to nothing in the microwave. Failing that subs some other way - just not more mash.
-
A freezer full of diced lamb or stuff you’ve slow cooked with it is worth it and will make great emergency meals for when you need a treat.
I know what you mean about shopping data, but I’ve signed up to Trashco because non-club card prices are just way too expensive for me to deal with and that’s my nearest big shop.
Soddages for us tonight with something yet to be decided. Co-op deal - I needed bacon but it was silly money just for that, or a deal with sausages and then more money off that for having a Co-op card (which I also own).
Don’t you just love supermarket loyalty cards and their price fixing ::) :tongue2:
-
H/M Chilli con carne for us with pilua rice and 1/2 a baghette :)
-
I've spent most of the morning (well since 10am) coughing and sneezing, I don't feel inclined to eat anything that was on offer. Paul has found a microwave meal he bought reduced so is going to have that. So that I can say I've had something, it's a spoonful of sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice.
-
Ham hock and mushroom tagliatelle with some pots and carrots a la Waitawhile.
-

I don't know if it is the wind blowing all the petals & pollen off the trees, but I've got a blocked up nose and puffy, watering eyes ::)
So I thought a spicy curry might clear my head, I should be able to taste it at least....

It's always been whatever was left from the Sunday roast meat put through the mincer with mash on top :nowink: It used to be a leftovers meal rather than something in it's own right.

The reality of eating that lot only dawned on me when I got home and then they almost immediately decided to start growing
As long as they don't go in the water - couple of tubs of emergency mash ;)
I probably have enough bits to do a chicken dinner but I'm not overly enthusiastic about it. I did buy some frozen sliced leeks, I might give those a try rather than the usual chunky mixed veg.

This is about right, but I use dried Oregano rather than the mint they use, and I don't add any water to the tomato mix, it needs to be a thick sauce, not runny.

Well, after a fridge sort out, I've found some mozzarella cheese I need to use up. So it's time for a pasta & veg bake.
-
Left over sausage and bean casserole, yesterdays spuds went in the water though so more mash needed. Hopefully that was user error over cooking them and the entire bag wont behave the same.
-

Happening a lot this year, I thought it might just be the random "white" potatoes I was buying, but these were marris piper that Id specifically upgraded to as I wanted some decent mash. Last nights did the same so I'm ruling out user error. Need to rethink the menu as it was a mash heavy week and Im just pouring it down the sink.
Last of the casserole today, will have to do wedges.
-
Ftf, lamb tagine for me & some cooked roast lamb for himself in a stew most likely.

I bought a chicken that was reduced at work yesterday and wished I hadn’t today when I had to cook it  It wasn’t too bad as my oven is pretty good at not heating the kitchen up, but not what I would have chosen if I had known the weather would be so good. We had baked potatoes and veg with it :)

I was tempted by a lamb burger as it was on offer ... it wasn't good, but the nice man from ocado has bought me some stoopidly large spuds for once. I foresee a proper oven cooked jacket spud in the very near future. :tongue2:
-
Last night Chicken casserol with new pots broccolli and peas, banana and creme fresh :)
Tonight Mac cheese out for lunch with a friend :D
-
That burger is still repeating on me
Anyway tonight I'm going old school, a jacket spud done in the oven with just a knob of proper butter and perhaps a sprinkle of extra mature cheddar.
-
Chicken and plot greens stir-fry plus rice.
-
A thick veggie soup with the last of the seedy bread.
-
Friday, big kid dinner. Egg and chips, possibly with corn and peas but potentially with beans and mushies depending on the level of ba's I can muster.
-
Gastro lemon pepper fish fillet with peas, coleslaw and a few chips :)
-
My usual Sea bass with a few chips and peas, pineapple and tiny ice cream :)
-
Lump of piggy in the slow cooker, should do me for the next 3-4 days.
-
You little piggy! Mine's spag bol.
-
Mines takeaway Curry tonight been in garden most of the day :D
-
Curry tonight been in garden most of the day :D
Hasn't it gone cold by now ? ( I'll get my coat )
-
The last of the ham, for me, with salad bits, a jkt spud if I can find 1 big enough, boiled if not...
-
Day #2 of slow cooked piggy, must try to remember the stuffing and apple sauce today.
-
H/M Cottage pie with fresh veg , Apple crumble for pud :)
-
I made a flan with the leftover ham, with peas and chunky chips :)
It must now be summer, officially, because the ice-cream van has just been round, and I had a choc nut sundae, so had my 'afters' before my Dinner
-
Naughty, naughty, you don't get pud unless you've eaten your dinner. :D Chicken casserole with dumplings, not my choice but I've cleared up behind him and it is his birthday so I suppose he can have what he wants.
-
Chicken, salad and flat breads :)
-
Day #3 of slow cooked piggy dinner with trimmings. I managed to forget the apple sauce again yesterday. Tried the M&S sage and red onion stuffing - no bueno - won't buy that again back to paxo. Spuds are still turning to soup in the water so I'm slicing them and layering with leeks and nuking them.
-
Mince and onion slice with a mixed salad , rest of Apple crumble and creme fresh :)
-
Chicken curry and we had crumble for pud as well, but it was figs I had bottled last year and plot berries from the freezer. Unusual mix but very good :)
-
Tuna and coleslaw on a jkt spud, with chilli mayo :)
-
Piggy day #4, then off to the freezer with the leftovers. Also considering using the rest of the apple sauce for a crumble
-
Spicy bits of chicken with veg rice, fruit yoghurt :)
How much piggy did you have i can not believe your still eating it :D
-
How much piggy did you have i can not believe your still eating it :D
The joint was just over 3lb. I cut slices about the thickness of a chop ( ~ 1/2 inch) 6 decent servings, you could probably get away with stretching it to 8 if needed, the websites says feeds 10 which is comical.
Back before it became stupidly expensive to buy unprocessed meat I used to just work down the list of joints each week, pork, beef, gammon, leg of lamb and then a whole chicken. Friday was fish and Saturday was the only filler day either curry, pizza, pasta etc.
It's so much easier not having to think about what to cook each day.
-
Chicken stir-fry, the chicken breast was quite big and by the time I'd sliced it, and the veg, it was obviously a plateful without cooking any rice :D
-
We're trying the Rani Pasta that they keep advertising on the telly as the corner shop has a special offer on it. Basil sauce and cheese with. Garlic bread on the side.
-
Since these spuds wont mash my plans for a fish pie have been scuppered and I resorted to beans on toast.
-
Have you tried steaming the spuds? Works for me when I have grown something like Sarpo Mira for jackets, then get a whim for mash. They go from rock hard to dissolved in seconds, so unless you are watching them like a hawk boiling is a no-go.
Tonight was a late finish for us both, but I had prepped up tray bake spuds and veg with pork chops and pre-prepared onion gravy. We were both knackered and starving so it was very welcome :D
-
Since these spuds wont mash
I microwave them 'til soft then scoop flesh from skins, add s&p, milk and butter and mash, seems to work for me. Try it and see ;)
-
Already tried that MoS without success- there's something wrong with the texture of them, almost like a conference pear it just doesn't mash (variety is Nectar). I should really go and buy another bag for mash as these are 250-300g each so keeping them for jackets would be better. I could also slice and shingle them on top of the fish but it just wouldn't be the same as a proper fish pie.
Tuna pasta bake tonight as I have a surplus of moo juice to use up as I didn't get round to making the apple crumble and custard either.
-
Ham and cheese omellett with baby new pots and peas, not sure about pud, trying to use stuff up before we take off next wk for hols :D
-
Chicken with spicy veggie rice.
-
Chicken Tikka slices with salad, coleslaw and a jkt spud :)
-
Macaroni cheese. We needed to use up the milk we had (I am lactose intolerant but know how much I can have).
-
Baked sea bass with a very few chips peas, pineapple and creme fresh :)
-
I have serious CBA's today. the plan is to nuking a spud. Half a can of beans has appeared in the fridge from somewhere and there's always cheese.
-
OH is ill and its gastric man flu, so you can imagine how fun that is
He is on the mend but not great, so he is probably having Lucozade and I am having stir fry with chicken :)
-
Stir fry here as well with the last of the chicken tikka, from the other day :)
-
We found some leftovers in the freezer, curry for me and chinese for Paul.
-
What?s happened to the title of this thread? (And a couple of others?)
-
Homemade Chilli with pilua rice and 1/2 a baghette :D
-
I had planned on deconstructed cottage pie and mixed veg but I torn between that and chilli now the weather has picked up.
-
Paul had a 'blonde' moment and misread the clock! We do not usually have our main meal at 4.30pm , I ate as much as I could of beef wellington, roast potatoes, cauli and mashed parsnips, but it was hard. We'd only had soup for lunch at 1.30pm with crusty bread, but the thought of putting it in the oven to 'keep warm' until we were ready did not appeal.
-
Pork faggots with new pots and fresh veg , pineapple and creme fresh for me , ice cream for him :D
-
OH still feeling delicate, so we had chicken and rice.
I had roasted chicken leg, roasted veg and rice. He had chicken meat with no skin and just rice.
-
I made heirloom tomato pie with Parmesan-buttermilk crust (photo). My sons and I liked it. Mrs. Sub_p hated it and the recipe takes a long time so dinner was late. Won't be making it again.
We had wild blackberry pie with vanilla ice cream afterward.
-
Anything other than the Toms in the filling SP ? Looks like a tomato heavy quiche, hard to see what this is to dislike - but I think that about most pies :tongue2:
I went with the chilli yesterday, but I regret not splitting the mince as I'd prefer cottage pie rather than leftovers today.
-

The 3 pounds of tomatoes are joined by a filling made with chopped bacon (I use the turkey bacon as I can't eat mammal meat; allergy), shallots, garlic, basil, chives, extra sharp cheddar, mayonnaise, a little dijon mustard, and oh yes, one egg.
The crust is all purpose flour, grated Parmesan cheese, butter, vegetable shortening, and buttermilk.
-
Did Mrs SP try a slice cold too ? I always make sure to try stuff that's not to my liking both hot and cold sometimes my opinion of it changes. To this day I still prefer cold baked beans :nowink:
-
Jacket potato with cold meats and salad, Fruit strudel with creme fresh :)
-

Nope. Did a hard U-turn a half a slice in and never looked back.
I like cold baked beans as well! Warm or cold really. Good picnic fare.
-

Now I know you’re odd  cold baked beans yuck
-
Slow cooked gammon joint finished off with a glaze in the oven, mash, peas, carrots & freshly harvested asparagus that himself cooked to mush  cheese sauce ftf. Much enjoyed after a busy day at the plot
-
Chicken breast in breadcrumbs, with oven chips, coleslaw, tomatoes and some mixed salad bits from the greenhouse.
-
We are still on the chicken and rice. I had stir fried veg with mine.
-

It took you this long to figure out I was ODD??? Pfftt... I never had you figured as a slow learner!!! :D  :nowink:
-
Now I know you’re odd
... and you still wouldn't have me any other way ;)
We are still on the chicken and rice. I had stir fried veg with mine.
It's bit concerning he's not over that yet Shoots - what did you do to the poor fella.
I have a bit of chilli left but not enough for a real meal, I'll put it in a nuked spud and do a toasted cheese sandwich for supper.
-
Sausages mash and peas fried onion and tomato for me, with spoon standing :)
-
Green Thai curry with the last of the turkey from earlier in the year. :D Naan if you want one and rice.
-
Red peppers stuffed with herby mince and Feta cheese, plus a few chips
-
We are still on the chicken and rice. I had stir fried veg with mine.
It's bit concerning he's not over that yet Shoots - what did you do to the poor fella.
Nuffin’ honest
He had a tummy bug on Thursday but insisted on eating his tea. I said starve it out, but not having a meal is a big deal for him and he finds it very hard to do, even when poorly.
He was fine for a while, then overnight it had its revenge and he was really ill for the rest of that night and for Friday. After that he said he felt like he had been punched in the stomach about 100 times and was in washed out dishrag mode.
I was working today and by the time I got home he had eaten his chicken with instant mash, sweetcorn and gravy, so all better now :)
I’m working up to tea, but not sure I have energy for much as it was a bonkers busy day. I’d like MoS’s tea, but cold baked beans sound good. Opening a tin and grabbing a fork I could just about manage and I love them cold :D
-
Still using stuff up before we take of, Ham egg bake beans and few chips, banana and youghurt fresh raspberries from garden :)
-
HM meatballs and tomato sauce, over bucatini with salad leaves on the side.
-
Potatoes, sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes all done in the oven. OH officially back to eating :D
-
HM meatballs and tomato sauce, over bucatini with salad leaves on the side.
I had to google bucatini. Never seen that around here, perhaps it's too cultured for us northerners...
-
I'm at a complete loss today, it's shopping day tomorrow and I have nothing of interest left. About all I can think of spicy veg rice but there's no protein to go in it :(
-
HM meatballs and tomato sauce
Leftovers, with more veg and lentils added, to make a thick soup, with some crusty bread.
-
Spag bol with whole wheat pasta, one more dinner to go yipeee :D
-
Pork steaks braised with spring onions and chinese cabbage, plus egg fried rice.
-
Shopping day :D It's supposed to be breaded cod and a few chips but we'll see if they're delivered and if anything is close to the use by date.
-
Baked sea bass with afew chips and peas :) Last meal to cook for a week :D
-
Barbecue glazed pork chop, chips and coleslaw :)
-
Baked sea bass with afew chips and peas :) Last meal to cook for a week :D
Happy holidays MrsPea :D
-
Really CBA today, grazed on random sandwiches of things. I really should have just made a proper meal.
-
Chicken drumstick Biryani with salad bits n pieces.
Greek lemon yoghurt afterwards...
-
Cornish pasty from Cornwall, brought for us by our neighbours last night.
-
Hm chicken, bacon and mushroom pie. I even made the pastry.
Baked potato, green veg and spoon standing to go with.
OH was beside himself
The best bit is I made 2, so one in the fridge for Monday night and that means I don’t have to think about tea that day :)
-
He certainly appears to feeling better :nowink: I don't blame him either, mmm pie. rough puff or shortcrust - hopefully not in the form off one of those upside down quiches people want to call pot pies.
I have a chicken for this weeks joint - I'm not sure if I should slow cook it whole, slice and shred or break it down. I can do more with the later but the former is less effort ... I suppose it's best to ask the CBA fairy as in the end it's always her decision.
-
Shortcrust and a proper pie with a top and bottom.
I’m working later so have got chicken to bung in the oven when I get home with hm flat breads from the freezer. Already prepped salad and that is in the fridge :)
There has been a nationwide ecoli outbreak reported which is linked to an unnamed chain. He has admitted to a sneaky MacDonalds on Monday which would fit with the 3-4 day incubation period. That’s him off burgers for a while then :nowink:
-
Lasagne, salad and new potatoes.
-
I have about 50% of a chicken dinner left from yesterday, lots of bit but there's not really enough of anything to be called a portion. I either need to do a little bit more of everything or a decent amount of something else to go with it to make a meal.
-
If in doubt add chips to fill the plate, was always my go to, when I was feeding the family :D
-

Big fan of your work. In the end I skipped dinner, had a couple of cream crackers with cheese round 10. I didn't really want it tonight either so didn't bother adding anything else, it would have been a waste. It's a really nice chicken from waitrose just a shame I'm not in the mood for it.
-
Today was the 2nd day of ham (from a tin) with coleslaw, jkt spud & fridge gravel salad :nowink:
Must get on-line and arrange a Trashco delivery ::)
-
Mince & onion in tomato based gravy, with mash, carrots, peas and a good serving of freshly harvested cabbage that needed clearing in the poly tunnel.
-
Prawns with chilli and garlic in breadcrumbs, which were some odd discontinued item from work, plus oven chips and salad. They were OK but I can see why they ended up in the reduced to clear freezer
-
Made pastry to make 4 Cornish pasties, but when I checked the fridge there was no swede
So I added carrot instead, but they just weren't right somehow  so ended up smothering 1 in gravy
and had it with mixed veg from the freezer, rather than the salad I'd planned.
The others will hang about in the bottom drawer of the freezer, I suppose ::)
-
Finished the chicken - well most of it, just with some chunky mixed veg and it was as exciting as it sounds.
-
Air fried salmon fillets, for me with chilli stir fried vegetables & noodles & for himself potatoes & carrots, mine was delicious
-
Pasta today. Probably tuna pasta bake.
-
Chicken curry, rice and salad bits for me. Making a big potful, so, some tonight the rest portioned up for the freezer.
-
Lamb curry from the freezer with buttery spinach tops and sea kale picked in the wet this morning, one head of garlic Rhapsody dug (a: curiosity and b: last year's nearly finished), a few tiny volunteer spuds dug because I need that bed tidied and Brassicas planted out (not today Josephine after all, now pouring down) and another 150g strawberries (this time last year I was picking 4kg every 2-3 days). Garlic and spuds to add to some lentils for a dahl and strawbs just to eat. Might make a curd tart to go with them. Clear that main spuds need another 6-8 weeks and garlic 4-5 I suspect.
-
Sawhedge, beans and chips.
-
Gastro Lemon Pepper fish with a few chips and salad bits.
-
My emergency spinach and chickpea curry ftf and rice.
-
Smoked haddock risotto with poached eggs
-
Old fashioned pie, mash and liquor :D
-
Chicken, oven roasted with lemons, rosemary and garlic. Served with broad beans and a tennis ball sized beetroot that was starting to bolt.
A warming dinner for a less than warming day.
-
Old fashioned pie, mash and liquor :D
Liquor with stewed eel juice or the easier modern version with some fish stock
We have pork and mushroom stir-fry with whatever greens I can muster :)
-
Cottage pie tonight. I have all day to make it so no excuse. Whatever Veggie I can find in the freezer as I'm out of sync with the shopping again.
-
Hi we're home after a lovely break away.
Sausage casserole tonight with new pots and broccolli, apple crumble for pud :)
BIG Shop Tomorrow :)
-
No cottage pie yesterday as there was a spud emergency only 1 being left  I'm stuck with either spag bol or chilli tonight with the left over mince beef.
-
Chilli pork stirfry for me.
Lemon Greek yogurt for after :)
-
Turkey burger with chips and bake beans , pineapple rasberries tiny ice cream :)
-
Probably more pasta as there's a bit of mince left to use up.
-
Scotch egg and a mixed salad a couple of new pots, pineapple and tiny ice cream :)
-
Leftover r. Chicken with mash, carrots, peas, broccoli & cabbage, with a couple of Yorkshire puds ftf popped in the air fryer & gravy of & fresh pineapple : very nice it was too
-
Sardines in Chilli oil with stir fry veg, then a salted caramel ice cream :)
-
A bit of a mash up as had a salad in the fridge for when I got home from work, but then discovered OH had wolfed what I had planned to go with it with his tea.
I ended up with toast and felt the need for pud, so I also had …
a salted caramel ice cream :)
-
Mac cheese for me as i've been out for lunch, oh had steak and kidney pie chips and peas followed by a homemade Eaton mess with fresh fruit from garden :D
-
Beef & potato pie with peas and cabbage :)
-
Soddages done in the oven with some spicy wedges and hm coleslaw.
-
3 Times I've been into the kitchen to take a chicken kiev out and 3 times I've been side tracked and forgotten, at this rate it wont have time to defrost  The plan is for a kiev and some spiced veg rice.
-
Spicy chicken strips with veg rice, not sure about pud just picked a bowl of strawberries :D
-
Spicy chicken strips with veg rice
Do you do anything special with the veg rice ? At the moment I'm just putting some small frozen mixed veg in with a bit of sweetcorn and half a can of kidney beans but things could do with a bit more oomph.
-
Chicken breast in spicy breadcrumbs with coleslaw, tomatoes and a few chips :)
-
Chicken legs done in the air fryer. I found some leftover HM spicy beans in the fridge so padded them out with roasted sweet potato cubes from the freezer, then just did some flavoured couscous to go with it all.
-
Cumberland pie with baby pots and either carrots or creamed leeks.
-
Fish cakes and chips, peas for me.
-
I'm back !! Baked sea bass fillet few chips and peas, fruit yoghurt :)
-
Cod and chips plus a few salad bits :)
-
We shared a piece of frying steak from a box of beef I ordered from a local farm, I’m hoping the rest of the 10kg of need less chewy . Salad for me & lyonnaise potatoes & a fried egg for himself
-
I’m hoping the rest of the 10kg of need less chewy .
There's always the slow cooker if it's not.
Breaded cod and a handful of oven chips, probably peas and corn and maybe a mushy or 2 as I'm a day out of sync.
-
Paella I found in the freezer. Can't find any garlic bread though.
-

Breaded cod and a handful of oven chips, probably peas and corn and maybe a mushy or 2 as I'm a day out of sync.
To be fair that was the only piece of frying steak, something I never buy  there’s 1 fillet steak & a rump & sirloin, some brisket & topside so fingers crossed. It’s a piece of topside for dinner tomorrow, so time will tell :nowink:
Tonight it’s not very much, been to a wedding party this afternoon & had a lovely buffet, so maybe some strawberries, himself has had a slice of toast & a cup of tea
-
A portion of minced beef and lots of veg in Goldfish curry sauce, it was already a plateful so I didn't bother to cook any rice...
-
Tomato and egg stir fry.
-
Found a packet of 10 bean mix in the cupboard (no idea when that's from) they were left soaking overnight and once boiled for a bit they will be heading off to the slowcooker for a bean and chorizo casserole
-
I've got a small piece of beef defrosting, if it doesn't get a move on, it will end up in the slow-cooker ::)
-
Ham hock and mushroom tagliatelle with baby pots and broccoli.
-
Yesterday was Chilli 'Hot'
Today roasted chicken breast for us both with all the trimings, homemade fruit flan with strawberry and
raspberries :D
-
Leftover casserole just need some mash doing. I always think I should put a veggie with this but other than broccoli I can't think of anything that would fit.
-
I decided on a 2 egg omellet ham and tomato for me, oh cheese and ham with a few new pots and peas, another small piece of fruit flan with crem'e fresh :)
-

Did you put carrot and onions in casserole ??
-
Did you put carrot and onions in casserole ??
It's a bean and chorizo casserole in a tomato sauce rather than a standard meat casserole.
-

OK sorry x
-
I've got a small piece of beef defrosting,
Some more of the beef with green beans, broccoli and mash.
-
More of the same - although it's really to muggy at the moment to be bothered with it. Unless it freshens up a bit I may just have a sandwich.
-
Cornish pasty ftf, oven chips and salad bits..
-
Didn’t fancy making the fish pie hubby had taken out of the freezer last night, so we had chicken drumsticks, freshly harvested new potatoes, & I had salad, blob of mayo
-
Pilchards, salad and new potatoes, Not keen on the tomato sauce they come with but with a good splash of vinegar I can put up with it.
-
No way I’m cooking option of cheese, hm sourdough bread from the freezer and salad. I had broad beans from the garden so blanched them and made a bean salad to go with the standard lettuce, cucumber and tomato one.
-
Very rare for me to do it, but a 'Ping' meal of beef curry and rice with salad bits, for me ::)
-
There's the last of the beans and about a tablespoon of mash left - can't say I'm in a hurry to reheat it or even eat it.
-
I have no clue tonight which usually end up as tuna pasta bake.
-
Pie & mash :)
-
Spanish chicken bake ala Hairy Bikers but minus the chorizo, was going to add in ordinary sausages but there’s enough as it is
-
Chilli spicy fish cake with veg rice No pud but a couple of crumpets that needed eating :)
-
HM curry base from the freezer with leftover chicken and some random plot greens from the fridge, plus rice :)
-
Breaded cod, a few oven chips and some mushies I should really put some peas and corn with it too.
-
Haddock filet dry fried with a few chips and peas. Banana and crem'e fresh sprinkling of nuts :)
-
Fish and chips with a few salad bits.
-
Tuna pasta bake with baby pots and carrots.
-
Chicken stir fry and 1/2 a baghette :)
Tomorrow cottage pie with fresh veg and a fruit sponge for pud :)
-
Doner kebab and salad, perhaps a few chips if I can be bothered :D
-
No energy at all today, best I can do is a nuked spud with a bit of cheese in.
-
Air fryer chicken and salad. OH out and I can’t be bothered messing around with much either :)
-
Roast pork loin slices, with hg minted new potatoes, carrots &peas, onion gravy, apple sauce & for himself stuffing. We were ‘given’ half a pork loin from our neighbours for the princely sum of £5.20, came via their dil from her works shop. I sliced it into 17 slices :) so 30.5p a slice, and very tasty it was too
-
Beef lasagne with baby pots and broccoli.
-
Mac and cheese.. I shall have to have something green tomorrow, Im beginning to turn into a block of cheese.
-
Can’t help you there as we had a HM pasta bake from the freezer with plenty of the yellow stuff in. We did have plot greens and mangetout peas with it.
-
Cold meats and salad with minted new pots, pineapple for pud :) I'm out tonight doing Horticultral club :)
-
Really hoping the mince beef defrosts in time for the cottage pie I had planned otherwise Im going to end up with egg and chips.
-
Spicy chicken, hm flatbreads, a mixed salad and a yogurt/mint/onion/chilli/chopped rocket leaves concoction I just made up as there was yogurt to use up in the fridge.
-
The cottage pie I didn't make yesterday  along with plenty of chunk mixed veg.
-
Breaded turkey slices with chips and bake bean , rest of pineapple crem'e fresh for me ice cream for oh :)
-
Leftover mince - might as well make another cottage pie.
-
First thing I laid hands on in the freezer this morning was a lone pork chop, can't decide between a trad dinner, or maybe cut it up for a chilli stir-fry
I'll see what I fancy later :D
I went for the chilli stir-fry option ;)
-
L/o cauliflower cake with new potatoes & salad
-
Salmon fillet with Chilli sauce poured over with veg rice , fruit yoghurt for pud :)
-
We had a stir-fry as well that was pork and chilli with tofu and mangetout peas, plus a mushroom egg fu yung and rice.
-
I just really CBA yesterday - ended up putting some of the cottage pie mince and cheese in a sandwich and nuking it. Can I consider that a deconstructed cheese burger? Tasted alright but it's really not a meal.
Trying again today for cottage pie, 4 hours to prep the mash and veggies.
-
Soddages, fried onions, peas, mash and spoon-standing :D
-
Now this is getting spooky
We also have soddages that I got out of the freezer this morning to defrost. A new offering from Tesco - pork with cheddar and caramelised onions. The jury is out on this as OH insists they will be delicious and I am not so sure. I’ll let you know ;)
Oven chips, broad beans from the garden and mangetout from the plot to go with them :)
-
The jury is out on this as OH insists they will be delicious and I am not so sure.
IMNSHO -All flavourings should be applied to the sawhedge and not contained within.
-
Spaghette bolangnase tonight with whole wheat pasta, soft fruit from grden made into an Eton mess it was lovely :)
-
The jury is out on this as OH insists they will be delicious and I am not so sure.
IMNSHO -All flavourings should be applied to the sawhedge and not contained within.
They were OK. As they came out of the oven you could smell cheese and onion, but to eat you would not have known it was there
They were tasty though, so maybe the cheese became a hidden flavour. There is a chilli and fennel version in the same range that we had a couple of weeks ago. They were better.
-
Friday is oven chip day ::) Just have to decide if I want to use the breaded cod I managed to fit in the freezer or the chicken Kiev I couldn't and should really be used by tomorrow.
-
Smoked Mackerel with salad bits, coleslaw and a small jacket spud, perhaps not the best of choices for a cold, wet, miserable day ::)
-
Baked sea bass with a few chips and peas, oh birds eye cod fillet chips and peas. Nibbles later :)
-
Minute steak slices as a steak and onion baguette plus some salad.
-
Dansak curry from the freezer today with pilua rice onions and cuecumber, popadoms and chutney :D
-
Dansak curry from the freezer today with pilua rice onions and cuecumber, popadoms and chutney :D
Chances of a care package ?
The chicken I took out to defrost doesn't look like it will in time so I'll be back to doing something like mac and cheese again.
-
Curry here as well - Tamil Nadu (beef) mince which is a fairly dry spicy curry. Oven roasted spicy cauliflower, onion salad and hm flatbreads to go with it.
-
It's curry night, obviously
I had chicken in extra spicy breadcrumbs, with roasted onions, butternut squash and tomatoes. Coleslaw, salad bits and chutney on the side...
-
Just put the chicken in the slow cooker. Had to force myself not to turn it into a curry since you lot have given me curry munchies. I need to eat something from the green food group this week, if only to make some room in the freezer. Ill do a chicken dinner with the trimmings and plenty of mixed veggies.
-
I've got a small gammon joint in mine, was hoping it would be a salad day, but it's not, so veggies from the freezer here as well :D
-
Mince and onion slice with fresh veg from garden , Raspberry and Apple crumble with either ice cream or crem'e fresh for me :)
-
Battered fish, oven chips and peas all from the freezer. OH demanded pickled eggs even though I only made them a week ago. Despite me tucking them away, he had spotted them ::)
I thought mine was OK but did really need longer in the jar to mature. His disappeared so fast I don’t think he noticed
-
There's chicken and a bit of mash left. Might as well just do a few more veggies and be done with it - save having to think of anything.

I've got the 2nd smoked Mackerel fillet to use up, with a jacket spud and i'll shred up some cabbage & onion, I think...

Trashco delivery yesterday and I got a Goat's cheese and roasted red pepper quiche to try..
Hope you do better than I did. I got the maple bacon and mature cheddar version for OH for his tea on Friday and ended up with a slice myself when I got in from work. It was OK, but an odd texture to the filling and almost totally free of any flavour. How do you make mature cheddar and bacon taste of nothing   :tongue2:
-
I just got it out of the box to put it in the oven I was gobsmacked to see that the filling only half-filled the case, so only about a 1cm deep
I'll report on the taste later....
Your were right, it was tasteless. There were only 3 slices of goat's cheese so 1/4 of the flan only had eggy filling and all of it had a light sprinkle of thin red pepper pieces. So won't be buying that again :(
-
Roast piggy that I found in the freezer. I managed to make an effort and do rest of a roast dinner with it (although I am still using up that nasty M&S stuffing). I even took out a tub of apple puree and put a few spoon fulls with it :tongue2: I don't normally like fruit with my food but apple sauce on roast pork is an exception.

-
OOOPs good luck Lardman...

How much was it if you don't mind me asking? And what fish?
Sorry - been a bit bogged down with work for a few days.
The fish is around £7 if you have haddock and I think a little more for cod, but it is massive and generally hangs off the side of your plate. Not sure on the chips, but again massive portion, hence sharing. I know you don’t get much change out of £20, so an occasional treat.
It is always fresh, cooked perfectly and they have quite a big menu, with cheaper meals like battered sausage and pies. They are generally busy with a queue out the door on Friday and Saturday nights :)
-
That's still a good price NS, I think it's about the same up here and the local chippy is so poor I've been in there once in 20 years. Even those tiny bits of bread cod I buy are nearly 6 quid and if they get any smaller I'll have to start calling them fish fingers.
I managed to do the pizza yesterday - so much better than the frozen stuff I'd been buying, I spoilt things by over eating though and it sat heavy all night. Sawhedge, mash and onion gravy today, I could really do with something green but all I have are some bendy carrots.
-
I have severe case of CBA, so having a huge jkt spud with cheese, coleslaw and g/house tomatoes...
-
H/M Cottage pie with lots of fresh veg broccolli carrots and peas, Apple strudel and yoghurt :)

Yesterday was a sausage tray bake and today was hm chilli and rice.

Breaded chicken and veggie rice, it really needed something else with it as it was - unsatisfying.
-
Fresh bought tagliatelle with an onion, mushroom & cheats cheesy sauce with air fried salmon and a tomato salad, himself had the salmon, tomatoes & boiled potatoes with a blob of mayo
-
A slice of braised beef ftf with Greek style green beans in tomato sauce.

The plan was for some burgers in buns with a few oven chips, but the burgers were missing on the shopping :( I'll have to break out the breaded cod, peas and sweetcorn, for no other reason than for me to chase them around the plate and a few mushies.
-
Something different tonight Smoked Haddock with 2 pieces of seeded bread, choc ice fpr pud :)

Piece of Morrison’s fillet steak between us as it’s our last night on holiday, was ok actually, actifry chips, fried egg for himself & tomatoes, salad & coleslaw for me with a few fried mushrooms & courgette, that’s most stuff used up ready for the journey home

Hm meatballs in tomato, garlic & basil sauce (1st time using a jar of a batch I’d canned a few weeks ago, and it won’t be the last, really good & great to have a ‘ready meal’in the pantry) with fresh tagliatelle for me & gnocchi for himself with a generous topping of parmigiana
-
Spag bol with baby pots and sprouts.
-
I really should make the chilli I've been planning to do for the last 2 days otherwise the mince will be going grey. I've had a very bad case of the CBA's for the last couple of days and today's no better. :(
-
Pork shoulder steaks plus oven roasted spuds and veg from the plot :)
-
CBA fairy here again, so tinned tuna, tinned sweetcorn, coleslaw and a smallish jkt spud ::)
-
I liked my tray bake so much, I am making another for tonight.
-
When I came to make the chilli last night I couldn't find any chilli power  The best I could do was powered chilli which made spicy mince with beans in a tomato sauce rather than a chilli.
There are leftovers for today Im just debating if I should do rice again or be really naughty and do some chips instead.
-
I vote chips
We have pasta bake with hm tomato sauce and crumbled up bits of sausage. The recipe says Italian breakfast sausage which I’m not sure you can buy here. I cheated and used normal ones with extra black pepper, chilli and Italian seasoning chucked in :D
-
I vote chips
So do do I
Here I'm thawing a Cornish Pasty ftf, with what I think are the last of the runner beans and some g/h toms :)
-
I voted for chips too - but adult me said no, it had to be rice. Breaded chicken tonight, with mash and whatever I can find that's green and a few bendy carrots.
-
I've got some H/M Greek style meatballs in the slow cooker, with onions, red peppers, garlic and greenhouse tomatoes.
I've not yet decided between jacket potato, rice or pasta to go with them....
-
L/o roast lamb & gravy from Sunday with mash pots, few roasties re heated in air fryer, carrots, runner beans, & for me a corn on the cob, with gooseberry & mint jelly. Of & ftf Yorkshire puds all veg hg, such a satisfying time when it’s the culmination of your gardening isn’t it. :)
-
I bought some diced beef last shopping but for the life of me I can't recall what I was going to make with it. I'm going to throw it in the slow cooker with a few onions and it will probably end up as a stew.
-
Spicy chicken strips with spricial fried rice it was very tasty, banana and yoghurt :)
-
Lazy tea, of tinned tuna & sweetcorn, coleslaw and salad bits :D
-
Sag bol tonight , pancake with yoghurt and fresh raspberries picked this morning, i dont think they know when to stop

Pork chop, with a lone sausage found in the freezer, with tromba squash, onions, tomatoes, red pepper and potato slices, all with a sprinkle of Cajun spice and roasted.
