Purchased 3x70 litre bags of Erin Excel "Reduced Peat" Multipurpose Compost for £10.00.

(Pink Dahlia on the front).

1. No smell
2. Still quite peaty but plenty of other matter; tiny sticks, tiny bits of wood, the odd small "pebble" of organic matter.
3. Did not feel the need to sieve the compost for the onion seeds today, but nothing gets pampered around here apart from my squashes!  

 There's certainly a lot less rubbish in it than the JAB last year.

I'm interested to note that no-one has mentioned any peat-free yet...I'd better get out and buy some so I can do a proper post!

Savbo, i think you will find that the majority of composts that have been bought to date, on this thread, are peat free or peat reduced, and all will continue to have their peat content reduced. Most contain wood chippings, wood fibre, coir, sawdust, loam, composted bark, sewage cake, composted vegetable matter and any thing else that can resemble compost, hence all the comments of, bits of wood etc.

I've only bought seed compost at the moment from Wilko's

I won't be buying it from there again in a hurry, it's very stoney and has alot of fibrous pieces in it considering it's a seed compost.
The seedlings seem to be ok so far apart from one sowing that seems to have damping off disease, not sure if it's from the compost or the prop (i cleaned the prop thoroughly)

A good sieving seemed to sort it out!

i bought B&Q sowing compost today.i ll try first time B&Q compost this year.every year i was buyung from asda or aldi and they were nice and cheap

 I found Wickes multipurpose with peat. Three big bags for £13  and lovely stuff!!

got a bargain today Westland 100 lt bales. multi purpose. Bought two, made enquiries about a discount because some were slighty torn. !/2 price so got the 2 for £6.99. Lovely peat mix.

Just opened a large bag of LEVINGTONS MULTIPURPOSE and on first inspection it looks to be very wet indeed.  It says on the bag that it locks in moisture.  Hmm so, it looks like I've bought water    Also it is extremely fibrous and has quite a few large bits of pebble in it, numerous sticks and chopped up plasticy bits. It is so fibrous in fact that it won't sieve, which is making me very cross. Why the heck is it not sifted before it's bagged up and sold to the customer.  I was planning to sow seeds this morning but after hours of sieving, leaving the seed trays to drain blah blah that I've not sowed a single seed. 

It may well be fine and my seeds will germinate beautifully but I have my doubts as it's so rough. It might be ok for the bigger seeds

wickes multi purpose compost, which i used  sucessfully last year ( this was after id bought the wickes peat free which my plants did not do well in)

Just bought 4 X 70L bags of Wickes Multi-purp for £13 after seeing several recommendations both last year and this (all your names jotted down just in case.   )

I won't find out what it's like for a few months as I will use them as growbags in the greenhouse, although being stored indoors at Wickes is a good start as they don't weigh half as much again as they sometimes do when stored outdoors.  

(Also noticed they had bags of topsoil at 5 for £13 (60L, I think) which although not exactly giving it away is better than some for bagged stuff.)

Crumbly, even fibres, looks like it has been milled/screened REALLY well.

And I haven't found a single piece of wood or debris (yet).  

Going to seive some for seeds next, it looks like I'll have no problems with it going through ithe seive.

But, come to think about it, I bet I could get it fine enough just by rubbing it through my hands.

Just bought 2 bags of 'Grandiol' compost from Lidl.
It looks OK.
Fluffy rather than gritty, and comes in 20litre bags which are fine for those of us who can't lift large bags.
I am pleased with it, as, like most of you, I have bought some really rubbishy stuff in past years.
