Hiya,

Does anyone have any thoughts on why two of my potato plants (Orla - in a tub & Red Duke of York - in the ground) are looking wilted while none of the others are affected?  The leaves look healthy apart from the wilt. Should I destroy them?  I'm watering them all equally, so what gives?

have a dig in the soil by hand to check for bugs. are you watering daily?

Also check the bottom of the stem near the soil - is it still firm and green?

The stems look firm and green, but the leaves are wilted and some are curled (but they're really just limp).  Some leaves are yellow near the base.  Is this just a sign of lack of water; it has been very hot and dry here lately...?

mine are exactly the same just got back from a closer inspection and there is a red ants nest under the one and a black ants nest under the other.

We have had ants galore at home. I even got out the ant powder to keep them off my plants we have enough with aphids let alone ants as well.

We're due to get a few days of rain here so I will keep my eye on that one in the ground and if it doesn't improve I'll yank it...hopefully whatever it is won't spread to the others.  I got my seed at T&M.

The one in the bucket could be frost damage b/c I planted it out as an experiment a while ago now (beginning to mid-April) and, like I said, the bucket may have been too small although, oddly enough that one looks better today and does not have the yellow leaves the one in the ground does.  Strange.

I decided to bite the bullet and remove the one really wilted stem (for the potato that is in the ground) that has not perked up despite having more than enough rain/watering.  Hopefully the rest of the plant will start looking better.  The one in the bucket is looking a little happier so I will leave it as it is...it may be frost, or that the container is too small...it was an experiment anyway so if I lose that one I won't be too upset.  Thanks for all the advice!
