Afternoon everyone
I started a new strawberry patch this year. They have settled in and are now putting out a lot of runners.
Somewhere in the back of my mind I have a feeling that in the first year I should cut off the runners and allow the plant to develop

Can anyone confirm or tell me I'm talking rubbish!!

Good afternoon Twood/Twud, 
you are correct, it is best to trim the runners off the plants this year. And if you can, don't crop any strawbs fron the plants this year.  I know it is difficult, but if you can resist you will ensure better roots for the years ahead.
