Wild Mushrooms - edible or not?
« on: November 14, 2011, 16:51 »
Hi all - as the heading... are these edible? I picked them in a local residential plot in a small forest..  I google them and come up with Field or Wood Mushroom... both edible..

The consequences of getting it wrong are potentially so serious that I'd want an expert opinion before trying them (but they do look like field mushrooms I must admit, and I am at least certain they're not death caps!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

They do look like field mushrooms but as a public forum we can't advise if they are edible or not, only give an opinion as to what they are.

I couldn't agree more.  Eat them at your own risk.

there isonly 1 you can mix this up eith and thats the yelloow stainer. When you cut the mushroom, always cut- never pull, your thumb will leave a mark on the cap -bright yellow!. If that mark is there its a yellow stainer. Bin it!

I have found 2 in 15 years of finding and eating mush!

95% sure is ont good eneough. With any wild mush you need to be 100%.

If we don't hear from you again gavin --- I'll just say goodbye

Actually they look just like the field mushrooms we pick most years in the school field and they are gorgeous to eat  :D

I wouldn't eat any mushroom on that basis.  I ate magic mushrooms given to me in good faith and had such screaming ab dabs I can't tell you

They were delish but it's just too risky.  Go out foraging with someone who knows what they are doing
