I popped in yesterday & saw a large garden fork -stainless steel & wooden handle,75% off.I'd decided when digging the spuds up to get a new one as I tend to use a border fork & then I saw a matching rake.Paid £3.50 for the fork & £2.24 for the rake I was well pleased, so much so I forgot to get what I went in for! :D

I reckon you went in for a wheelbarrow, ten bags of compost, a Flymo, two strimmers, and a packet of carrot seeds...

Did you have to go back...?  ;0)

I pop in our local one every couple of days and they are steadfastly refusing to start their 75% sale yet.

I need a new stainless steel spade as the one I bought last year for £4 has already snapped.
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

I don't get the fascination with stainless steel garden tools. My other hobby is digging up antique bottles and virtually every dump I've been on I find broken stainless steel forks or spades. They're just too brittle, can't take the punishment. My lad has broken a couple of stainless forks jost digging his garden.

Give me a good forged steel one any day, they're made to work, not look pretty  ;)

Yes, I've noticed this too Excav.

Dennis, the old boy on the patch next to me, has an old 'Neverbend' spade. It has a blade about two thirds the length what it would be new, and he's had it forever!

My dad gave me his old 'Neverbend', and unfortunately, I passed it on to someone and it's gorn for good now...

Both of these are the forged steel variety.

I should have clarified that it was the wooden handle that snapped where it joined the stainless steel. It had done quite a lot of work and I think it`s well made. It was just me testing it`s capabilities to the max. ;)
