Tap connector that don't leak.
« on: May 25, 2013, 20:48 »
I am so sick of tap connectors even the posh (read expensive) yellow ones leak !

Before I have a temper tantrum and break out the jubilee clips and some 15mm copper pipe can anyone recommend ones worth buying ?

I use Gardena ones but you do need to change the rubber washer after a time.

we just have the cheap b&Q connectors, and even on our squareish taps they seem to be fine.

Make sure the washer is ok and do not over tighten them .

It's difficult to see which bit is leaking - either the 3/4" BSP or the quick connector bit. I've ordered some o-rings just incase. Think I might also try a brass connector rather than plastic.

I've been through many different types of connector (at both ends of the hose) and I always find that even cheap brass connectors work much better than any of the plastic ones, but of the plastic ones I must admit that grey and yellow is not my favourite colour combination.

Having said that I bought a plastic "Y" connector for the threaded main tap from Wilkos a few years ago for an incredibly low price and it's still going strong, although admittedly it's only used in the summer so I can use a long and a short hose to save having to march up and down the garden each time.

Only type of connector I really don't get along with is the "water-stop" type - please send your answer on a postcard if you know how to detach the spray nozzle without having to release the pressure in the hosepipe first or use a pickaxe!  ::)  :nowink:

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I`m with JayG on this, cheap brass is better than the best plastic.
Better quality brass will (with the occasional new O ring) last many years. :)
