Things not growing
« on: May 13, 2009, 09:15 »
Hi all,

I have had some spinach, beetroot and chard in the ground for a number of weeks now, but they dont seem to be doing anything. All three have popped their heads up and are about an inch high, but have been that way for ages. They just seem to have stopped growing. Any ideas why that might be?

Any chance of putting your location in to your profile, that way someone local to you could probably tell you it's too cold or lack of rain.

At a guess, it's too cold & not wet enough.

(Well that's the case here)!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Matt, they're probably waiting for a few nice sunny days, like the rest of us  :)

Sorry - Updated my profile now, I'm in Nottingham.

I thought things like spinach didn't like it very warm and spring and autumn were the best times to sow...

Anyway - are they likely to recover in the warmer weather, or is a new sowing required?

If they're up, they'll be OK.

Bit of warm & wet & they'll be away!

I’ll take good growing weather any day – the weeds will loose eventually!

We had some very windy times here. Strong winds can hinder plant growth rather considerably and also provide a chill factor and dry the top of the soil out.

it's down to the weather, give them time as they will be growing great root systems.
