Winter lettuce cold frame

I don't particulary want a green house but I noticed Mr fothergills for instance has Winter lettuce little gem that can be grown in a greenhouse or frame. When they say frame do they mean those small glass cold frames. It doesn't get really really cold here. Also says sow september to march.

Yes i think thats what they mean.
TIP
Last year I visited my local tip and purchased at next to nothing the pvc baskets from inside the freezers,used those as cold frames.
Then again I AM A BIT TIGHT :oops:

Did the baskets have a plastic cover or did you make one. Cos really I guess a cold frame is only a cloche or am I wrong.

winter lettuce is perfectly hardy but the frame over just helps keeps the leaves clean from splatter when it rains. A cloche would be fine

Trouble with cloches though is that they disappear in high winds :roll:
