Title: Food
Post by: cejx on January 24, 2011, 13:28
I've 5 ex bats, who now have settled in a grown back their feathers have got fussy over their food!  They were on ex bat crumb, which was replaced by layers pellets.  A bit of corn was mixed in with the pellets, and now they seem to be ignoring that too.  They are not off their food, as will take my hand off for a bit of grape, and all 5 are laying pretty much daily.

Any advice on what to feed them as their staple diet?

ta.

have they ever managed to eat the layers pellets? If not then either go back to the exbatts feed or try layers mash. You could mix pellets with hot water. I would though cut out all treats until they are eating properly. I assume they have grit and oyster shell available at all times.

I started them on the pellets as they were ignoring the crumb.  TBH, I've no idea ifF they actually eat much of the pellets.  I refresh them daily (not many have been eaten), and I've tried the pellet porridge, but absolutely no luck with that.  They're even ignoring the corn at the moment.  The girls are in a large coop, unless we're home, and they are allowed to demolish the garden!

this evening take a look at their crops, they should be nice and rounded but flat again in the morning - this will tell you if they are getting enough food  :)
