Actually it looks a LOT like cannabis!  Try googling 'cannabis leaf'.

Has anyone been sowing bird seed?

I wouldn't be inviting the local constabulary in if you do!

It's probably just run-of-the-mill hemp, which won't do much if... erm... inhaled. Although I really don't know the legalities of growing it...

"The ban on hemp cultivation, imposed in 1971 under the Misuse of Drugs Act, was finally overturned in 1993. Campaigners successfully argued that although industrial hemp was a variety of the cannabis plant, it could be grown as a legitimate crop as it contained practically no tetrahydrocannabinol, the property that gives marijuana - a different strain of cannabis - its potent effect."

...and I would imagine the burden is on you to prove it's legal.

If it was in my garden, I'd be happy to keep the photo as a talking point but it would be on the compost heap by tonight.  :D

Yep, it's cannabis alright. Some years ago (OK a very long long time ago) we grew a plant in the garden to see how big we could get it. Reached about eight feet.

Then panicked because the people next door started asking what it was and so chopped it down and burnt it on a bonfire ... some party I can tell you   Nextdoor said the food smelled interesting at our barbecue and what wood chips had we used

In my wild and wayward yoof I grew hemp, hoping it might be a good smoke. Trust me, it's not.  ::) :D

These days I'd be terrified of getting caught with it, even if it is legal!

Still, you might be able to fashion a short rope from it..?
