....Will my leeks still be okay to fatten up? Some of the holes are full of soil and I was just wondering if this means I need to take a spoon and scoop the soil out or just leave them be and see what happens. Also, how often do you water yours in this heat - bearing in mind they're in deep and probably are accessing moisture deep under? Hope I'm making sense?

Leave them be - they'll be fine.  Neither would I water unless they show signs of wilting.

might just send my hubby to do that job!! sorry but i had to laugh at the thought of him scooping the soil out with a spoon, we have planting about 300 (not as many as you WG i know) but it would keep me laughing for a while!!

when you plant out your leek seedlings into the final position,get a small length of hose pipe(8"-10") and attach it to your watering can,this makes it so much easier when you water them in, you wont be spilling the water every where  
you might find it hard to get a 15mm hose onto a watering can ive got a small bit of air line but you can find anything that fits,the discharge hose from a washing machine/dishwasher will do.
