DD must be getting bored again    Yes Foxy, it's the best time to plant tulips now. They need the cool winter to set their roots.

You can still plant tulips in the open ground but here is  an idea you may like to think obout,
How about planting the bulbs in plant pots and then plant the pots in the garden?

Doing your planting this way lets you remove the bulbs when they have been at there best and put the pots out of sight "but the bulbs can carryon doing their natural food storage and you now have a space thats been vacated to plant your next display.
And the bulbs in the plant pot,s "they,re now ready for a replanting later in the season.

I bought a vast number of tulips and other bulbs for cutting, and was banking on being able to plant out before end of November, which is when the last recommended date is on the packs.  However, sometimes I leave it really, really late, and have in the past planted in late December and January, with mixed results, but most nearly always come up.  Daffodils are not so good planted that late I have found to my cost.

You're right tallulah. Daffs need to go in earliest, like September for those big roots they set.

I've done bulbs in pots too but I find once they're done that I just don't have time to get them into the ground before next fall. Extra work that I must add to the fall cleanup list  :x
