Beetroot Growing Question...
« on: March 25, 2010, 21:22 »
I have an old bottom half of a guinea pig run/cage and wondered if I could grow a few beets in it??

I ask because, when i've seen my dads beet growing, they seem to grow themselves up out of the ground , only half in/out.

I've got the 'bolthardy' variety if that makes any difference.

I'm sure you could, as long as it has drainage holes  :)

That's normal  ;)  And very helpful to see when the beetroot is ready for harvesting  :)

Right then, where's me drill?? Think i'll get them in sharpish. But what about this snow forecast that i've been hearing about, will the seeds be ok, or should I fleece the container 'til they're through??

Beets are quite hardy but not as hardy as chard, so if they've sprouted, the fleece would be a good idea just in case your area gets hit harder. If still just seeds, then no need to bother.

Good job I didn't rush in my beet seeds, we only had torrential rain instead of the snow yesterday and part of today.  >:( >:(      It would've washed my seeds away!!!

Lets see what this weekend brings....

4 days off!!!!  :D :D :D. So I hope it'll be full on at my lotty........
