Bearing in mind I have no idea what they are best used for ! ie starter or desert or part of a salad ! How many plants do I need for a reasonable crop .

Mine need to hurry up and germinate then! It's been 5 days and I'm getting impatient as the normal cucs are up  ;)

I had 2 plants last year and that gave me more than enough.  They are more crispy and tangy than normal cukes.  Use as a cucumber sub in salads or salsa, eat off the plant as snacks or preserve them.

I've got a cucamelon freezer pickle recipe I put in the cooking bit if you like.  It needs eating up once defrosted, but its good stuff  :)

Put mine in yesterday as this years interesting veggy.

If it all goes wrong or they're foul-some I fully intend to blame the people on here who grew them last year ... you know who you are

Well............. cos a lot of people found them difficult to germinate last year, I sowed loads  ;)

Now I have 6 on the bedroom windowledge and they're romping away - already looking for something to climb up  :D

I also have 12 in the blowaway inside the greenhouse  :nowink:
They are growing very very slowly - but the recent cold nights haven't killed them, so they may be hardier than people think.

Who knows what I'll do with them.....................I suspect some unsuspecting friends will have something new to try growing this year

I have bought someone some seeds and a quick gooog & I found a site, which had pictures of pickling them.

I'm sure they salted them first (cut in half), removed excess moisture and then pickled them. Salting helps them stay crunchy it said.

Found the page

Mine have climbed to the top of their green pea sticks and were waving tendrils about making a bid for the dining room curtains

They have been shifted to the kitchen windowsill - no curtains and wider so nothing to latch on to  ;)  I've also pinched out the tops and they are making lots of side shoots.  I was thinking that, like sweet peas, pinching out might give a sturdier, more branched plant   Dunno, but it seems to be working  :)

Gavin, I've got 2 cucamelon pickles I have tried that are good, but they are short-lived preserves, rather than full-blown pickles.  Will put the recipes in the cooking bit  :)
