Title: Is it a bad time to move rhubarb?
Post by: Ice on March 11, 2007, 20:07
I have a humongous rhubarb that is in a position I would like to put my second, yes second shed   It's just pushing through the soil at the moment, the rhubarb that is, and my guess is that I would probably kill it.

Words from the wise please.

I moved mine last week, it seems fine, I  dug right around it not breaking any roots and lifted it in to a pot ready for it, and a week on it looks very happy and fine.
I think Rhubarb is pretty tough, I think the sooner you do it the better before it is in full flourish.
I am sure someone with more experience will come along soon!!

I reckon it would take a lot more than being torn up / chopped up / replanted to kill rhubarb.

Think you should be fine, I have seven rhubarb crowns just heeled in at home waiting to be moved to the allotment, think I'm safe for another week or two yet.

go for it .. put some manure under it afor you fill the new holes in .take the opportunity to split it .plant a yard apart ,soil over n heel it in hard  dont let the rain wash into the head just make a litle mound around the growing points

Thanks Munty.  Might just take the opportunity to split it as it really is a big beast.
