Something to sow now?
« on: August 08, 2012, 15:22 »
As im starting to finally crop some veg, im wondering what to do with the spaces.

What can i sow at this time of year, either to give me a crop soon, or for winter availability or over-wintering?

Im wondering if i could get away with another batch of peas, since the first were disasterous!

Have you read the articles on growing month by month?  Lots of good ideas (as in John's books! ;))

We're doing late beetroot, spring greens, late turnips, kale and even late psb, but we'll see how it all goes.  If they don't mature, at least the hens will get some food in the winter!

had a look straight after posting! Spring onion was on there, and since none of mine came up, ive just chucked a row in. At least, i think thats what they are, unmarked packet, but they looked like spring onion seeds!

I've just sown some Paris market dumpy carrots in a big plastic box.  Packet said up to July sowing, and its only early August.

If it gets too cold before they get to an eatable size, I'll put the box in the polytunnel.

been looking at my seeds, and since spring seemed to start a couple month late here this year, ive decided anything with a sow date up to end june/july might be worth a go.

Im going to try some more peas, since only four plants grew from the last attempts its not like ive anything to lose. Also found a pack of spring cabbage seeds, so can try those for over wintering
