Sweetcorn seedlings
« on: May 09, 2012, 20:28 »
I foolishly left two seed trays of seedlings (about 10cm high) in my polytunnel last week when the temperature in there dipped to -2C. The top two thirds of each of them has turned a dead-looking brown colour but the bottom bit still looks green and alive. Do you think they'll survive or am I better chucking them out and starting again?

If the brown bit goes down inside, the chances are they will rot off

Sweetcorn are not hardy so -2C is likely to have done for them tbh

I just sowed my first lot on Sunday so get some more in! My kids would kill me if I did not get them their sweetcorn.

Yep, you still have time. The farmers where I live, and I am not that far south, have not started sowing it  yet, the fields are ready to be planted but we have a cold snap on the way so it could be another week before it goes in.
